tech help
I've got a virus on my com. My browser keeps directing me to "Fidelity" or "Nasdaq". My virus software and Microsoft downloads haven't cleaned it. Any-one know how to remove it?

If no one has any solutions for you I will point Sim here when he wakes up in few hours. He'll definately have some advice.

do you have some sort of spyware/adware detection/removal tool installed?? it sounds to me like thats what it is,. if you do have one installed, update its definitions, otherwise look for either adaware or spybot S&D , I don't have links right this second, but I'll try to find them again. other than using a tool like that you have as good as no chance of managing to remove it completely.
Spybot S&D [www.safer-networking.org] AdAware [http://www.lavasoftusa.com] personally I've always kinda prefered spybot... dunno... lavasoft strikes me as a little ... shady... for some reason. but I run both fairly regularly on Zaftigs machine. |
hijackthis! http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/
well... hang on a sec. don't just delete everything it finds When you run hijackthis it scans your computer for things that have been incorporated into windows and internet explorer. Sometimes these are good things (google toolbar, etc) and sometimes bad (the thing you're experiencing) run hijackthis and email it to me and I'll take a look at it |
You could go and get the free trial of Spy Sweeper. Worked for me when ratlet had downloaded a screen saver that had some pernicious little processes in it that AdAware and Spybot S&D couldn't find.
eta: And quit downloading porn. |

go back out to your corner, looks like the cops are already waiting for your daily show down there :P

I go to a site called Panda Active Scan and let them sort out anything I am not sure of.
Panda It has found things that my Norton and spyware antivirus stuff can't find. I like it. Just let it scan your computer for you. |
Thank-you everybody!
I'm still working through the avalanche of helpful information. FYI, I have two virus checkers and automatic updates from Microsoft - it still got through. *sigh* |
