Coffee 01-03-2006 02:17 PM

Quit smoking what? :p

zenbabe 01-03-2006 02:23 PM

the legal stuff

Coffee 01-03-2006 02:56 PM

Good on ya...I'm rooting for you.

zenbabe 01-03-2006 03:16 PM

I am worried that it might ruin my marriage.

Frieda 01-03-2006 04:38 PM

why?

zenbabe 01-03-2006 05:00 PM

because I might turn into a real bitch.

Coffee 01-03-2006 05:16 PM

well, it will, but only for a short while...then you will become your usual sweet self ;) and live longer too.

You should probably be more worried about gaining 400 lbs the way you cook. :p

zenbabe 01-03-2006 06:01 PM

I know!!! I am totally worried about that too!!!!!!

trisherina 01-04-2006 12:11 AM

To prevent becoming a bitch:

Use the patch.
Use the gum.
Use the nicotine inhalers.

Use all three at the same time. Patch and inhalers work best. Use them for longer than recommended. Taper off only as you feel able. Avoid all triggering situations for quite a while, or if you must be in situations where you feel triggered, bring a support person who will help you not to smoke.

And it's a process, not an event. A pretty long process.

madasacutsnake 01-04-2006 12:34 AM

Blow it out your porthole baby.

karma_queen 01-04-2006 12:28 PM

well done! i haven't smoked anything for 3 weeks now - at least that's one good thing about being around the family who disapprove!

And I know you know this, too, but read the instructions first.

zenbabe 01-04-2006 01:52 PM

Nope, cold turkey baby! I am on my second day. Not drinking helps.

dinzdale 01-04-2006 01:56 PM

Let me know when the real Zenbabe shows up. She'll be pissed.

Nooo kidding. If it weren't for that, I'd have quit years ago.

dinzdale 01-04-2006 02:03 PM

Now you're really starting to freak me out....

Gatsby 01-04-2006 02:05 PM

Here, maybe this will make you feel better. A Maker's Mark ad:

zenbabe 01-04-2006 02:25 PM

How will I ever visit Texas again, if I don't smoke??!??!?!

Coffee 01-04-2006 04:01 PM

Right ON...Cold Turky...Rambo Style.

Thats what I did too. Something about taking nicotine using patches...while trying to quit nicotine just didn't seem logical.

dinzdale 01-04-2006 04:04 PM

But smoking is so much fuuuuuun.........

Me, too, but I also had a really bad Bronchial cold so even normal  breathing was painful.

What really pissed me off was after a month of not smoking, everytime I would get a little cranky, people (my husband) I thought were supportive would nod their head and say, "It's the cig-thing." As they lit up another butt, I'd nod my head and say, "Ya, you're gonna die MF from those, dumdum. And before that, you'll be the old man/woman in the store carrying your oxygen tank with you."

omg!! I thought you were a guy Jack!

Gatsby 01-04-2006 07:27 PM

Me, too!

trisherina 01-04-2006 08:24 PM

Pharmaceutically pure nicotine is relatively safe compared to the 4000 other chemicals you take in with cigarette smoke.

I suggest the next time you stop any drug that you've been ingesting for a dozen years, you let your physician know you plan to do it "cold turkey" and see what reaction you get.

Using smoking cessation aids markedly improves your chance of quitting. But do whatever you want to do.

zenbabe 01-04-2006 09:11 PM

I am a little worried that the lack of nicotine might make my seizure disorder that I had when I was younger come back. It is wierd how it totally went away after I started smoking and I have read studies about how nicotine has been used to cure it.

trisherina 01-04-2006 09:15 PM

Well, I'm not really as bitchy about it as I sound. But I just had two mandatory full days of smoking cessation indoctrination two weeks ago, so I'm not just blowing it out my ass. And I damn well wish they'd had those inhalers when I quit cigarettes. I went "cold turkey" -- off and on for a year.

trisherina 01-05-2006 12:24 AM

P.S. Some smoking cessation products (most notably those containing bupropion i.e. Zyban) will lower the seizure threshold, so if you have a doctor who is familiar with your seizure history and why you started/stopped having them, it would be best to talk it over with her/him.

lapietra 01-05-2006 12:45 AM

You should put all the money you would normally spend on packs of ciggies aside and buy yourself a kick-ass New Year's Eve frock at the end of the year :D

Congrats, zennie. To your long life. :)

xfox 01-05-2006 01:03 AM

You rock, Zen! Calm down, feel better.

Do what feels right, but I'm for getting nicotine out of your system as soon as possible. It's not easy, but it's worth it.

Carry on.

Yeah, cover your ass, man. It would suck to have the seizures come back. :( I'm rootin for ya!

zenbabe 01-05-2006 05:39 PM

The doctors could never figure it out why they stopped. My brain patterns went to completely normal when I was 25. Before that the patterns were that of having grand mal siezures every day, even though I hadn't had one since I was a child. So I went off medication and have been fine since. They said I was a medical mystery.

Go, Zenbabe, go! How is it going? Still smoke free?

zenbabe 01-10-2006 08:18 PM

:(

Cold turkey didn't work out. I have cut down though.

Zeismyhero 01-11-2006 05:56 PM

I am rooting for you! :)

lapietra 01-11-2006 10:03 PM

Me too. Cutting down is awesome. One step at a time...
