Well... at least I'm gonna take tonight off & watch cable - in a coupla weeks, tho', when the first paycheck comes, I'm going to buy a bottle of Veuve Clicquot and toast all the good people who helped me get here - not the least of whom is Mr. SmartyPants :D

It was funny having to fill out an application for a job I've already got. Pretty darn humorous, actually...

Jack Flanders 02-03-2006 02:30 AM

Yey!! :) :) And thanks to Smarty!!!

xfox 02-03-2006 02:43 AM

that's great - good luck - Happy Friday, too!

lapietra 02-03-2006 03:32 AM

Thanky! Same to you, foxy lady!

Brynn 02-03-2006 05:43 AM

Okay, Smarty, find me a job too - my boss is crazier than I am.

craig johnston 02-03-2006 08:09 AM

well done lap. it's hard to start a new life in a new city,
but at least you speak the language.

and you got smarty..

:)

lapietra 02-03-2006 03:09 PM

Well - Smarty didn't actually find me the job - but he let me crash with him for a little while when I first got here, then introduced me to his neighbor, who *just* happened to have a room she was willing to rent. From there, I found the place I'm living in now! And the whole time I was temping temping temping until I got this gig. There was some luck involved, but I knew it would work out if I just got a foothold! and Smarty gave it to me.

S.F. is an awesome city. It's got a lot more soul than L. A., that's for sure. And yes - there is Smarty, who is an elemental part of the city, and therefore just as awesome and fulla soul as the city. :D Three cheers for Smarty!!

Way to go, Lap! That is so exciting!

So, what exactly will you be doing at your new job? (If this is common knowledge to those who have been around a while, sorry!)

I'm happy for your happiness...

Well - it's sort of what I've been working toward for a long time - I'm the webmaster and db developer for a non-profit school organization - which means I build and maintain the website and everything on it. My first big projects will be to develop and maintain some interactive db pages for the public (i.e., teachers, job applicants, parents of students) that will allow them to create profiles, track certification, send applications, and other functions online.
They're going to be sending me to a few courses to help orient me - I've worked with databases and have created interactive pages in the past, but not on this scale - so the idea is that this will help bring me up to speed. I've been here since September as a temp, so they know my work ethic/habits, and felt it was a good investment to have me be trained further than try to hire someone else (also they're getting me pretty cheap :p but that's 'cos I really love the people here...)
It is so incredibly validating to have people believe in your potential enough to provide you with the means to reach it. In a number of ways, it's a dream come true - actually a few dreams, since all of this will allow me to have a much more stable and satisfying work and home life. I wish this for everyone.
Hey red!!! Remember you said I would someday find a group of people who were really excited about what I could contribute?!? Got any lottery numbers? :D
