Piphilology - communal
....or the creation and use of mnemonic techniques to remember a span of digits of the mathematical constant Pi.
The most common mnemonic technique is to memorise a sentence in which the number of letters in each word in turn is equal to the corresponding digit of Pi. e.g.: How I wish I could enumerate pi easily, since all these bullshit mnemonics prevent recalling any of pi's sequence more simply. So let's do one of our own - Poetry? Prose? a mixture? 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375 10582097494459230781640628620899862803482534211706 79821480865132823066470938446095505822317253594081 28481117450284102701938521105559644622948954930381 96442881097566593344612847564823378678316527120190 91456485669234603486104543266482133936072602491412 73724587006606315588174881520920962829254091715364 36789259036001133053054882046652138414695194151160 9............ |

[SIDEBAR: Kate Bush wrote a song about pi for her new album Aerial, in which she actually sings the value... to quite a few decimal places. I'm not sure how useful it would be as a mnemonic aid, however. The typically quirky melodic structure ain't perzackly Schoolhouse Rock, ya nome sane? Anyhow, I recommend the album, to those who are into that sort of thing.] |
