so

the site as a whole is reaching its adolescent phase. gangly and suddenly too large for its bed. the traffic bill is getting too big to be donated and for that reason i will have to start to put ads here and there.

the board is one of those here and there places - mainly because what goes on here accounts for nearly 40 percent of queries on the site.

text ads only, most likely from google.

i'd like your help in finding a place for them that is both visible (i.e. not on the bottom of the page) but as non-obtrusive as possible. i'd like your suggestion on size, placement and color, etc...

The board is huge now, isn't it. Welp, it'll be 4 years old in September

yep, right at the freakin' top, like everybody else
font slightly larger than most of the text on the page
in a nice box, not too bright, but a contrasting color

no problem ze, we understand

more traffic, ads...less traffic, no ads... hmmmm...

i'd say... popups!

however, if you're in need of money, I can check the couch. :)

I'd be happy to pay a yearly fee to use certian forums or some of the funner things...like, leave a few of them for public use, but take a few of the others that get frequent use and make us pay $5 or so to use the rest of the site? Something like that may work instead of ads...

AllegroNg 04-29-2006 04:16 PM

Most people have pop up blockers anyway..

I like the idea of "non-obtusive" advertising. I agree that ads should be as acute as possible!

at the top of the page, where angiepangie put the one she made. Color = something that works complementary with the color scheme you already have. Like puke green will not work. Maybe something in a nice violet or blue, or a nice combo of the two? As for size...um...whatever size is fine, really. It's what you do with it that counts. ;)

make it a banner, not ridiculously big, but just a text ad.

banners go on top of the page, not on the sides to prevent layout problems due to different monitor settings.

try and make some arrangements with google about the subject of the banners.. or soon you'll be advertising porn and penis enlargement stuff when someone brings up that subject.

and make sure it says something like "advertisement" with the banner!

good luck ze! :)

thanks guys...

will be added in the next couple weeks...

text ads only.
potential of an opt out with a subscription? dunno if i know how to do this
most likely at the top...maybe the very top?

a few zits on the adolescent forehead

it's fine, honestly. kind of endearing even.

trisherina 04-30-2006 11:57 AM

Opt out with a subscription is a great idea, but I probably wouldn't in response to Google ads because they're not very obtrusive and actually kind of amusing.

xfox 04-30-2006 12:03 PM

How will you decide what stuff the ads will be for? Like absoute, or lifesavers, etc.? Do what you have to, ze.

dinzdale 05-01-2006 08:37 PM
