My brother-in-law is from El Salvador, and he recently had to check in to the hospital for lung surgery. The staff at the hospital assumed he didn't speak English (which he does better than most native English speakers), and when they were getting ready to prep him, they told my sister to go into the back with him because they'd need her help. They took him into holding area for surgery patients and the nurse said to my sister, "Tell him to give you his wedding ring, his wallet, his watch, and any other valuables to hold while he's in the OR." My seester turned to her hubby, looked him dead in the eyes and said, "Give me your watch, your wedding ring, your wallet, and any other valuables you have so I can hold them for you while you're in the OR."

They made her go back to the waiting room after that.
