Sick cat

Knuckles, who is sixteen and diabetic, had to go through another trial. I found a lump, and the vet wanted to remove it. So, I allowed it. Well, that surgery resulted in 7 inches of staples. I wanted to cry when I saw it. He is doing very well. There are challenges for me to get his pain meds, and other meds into him. His pain meds have to be applied to his gums, and we fight like mother f'ers to do this. Mostly, it ends up sprayed all over the walls or floor. I am not a good nurse. I know the drill, I could wrap him in a towel, but I don't want to disturb the staples in his skin. So, it has been fun. The vet sent off the growth to determine if is cancer. If it is, I will deal with it. I will not allow him to go through chemo. He is too old to deal with that.

Today was very sunny, so I opened up the inner door of my house and let the sun in. He snoozed an enjoyed the warmth. I want to make every day like that for him. He has been my friend for sixteen years.

Going through the exact same thing with my dog right now. She went through a long surgery in March, took out two big malignant tumors and they grew by September. This week the vet gave her some antibiotics, turns out that she's allergic. She's having a lot of trouble walking tonight.

I don't think I'm cut out for animals.

I hope Knuckles gets better though!

Bman, I am so sorry for your loss. Pets are the most amazing things in the world. When Knuckles first became seriously ill, I was a basket case. What the vet tech told me, is that she use to work for the humane society and would see very abused animals brought in. Dogs that were chained to a tree all day, and beaten animals. She told me that as lucky as I felt to have my pet, he was lucky to have me, because I have given him a good life. I feel that you did the same for your puppy poo. My heart breaks for you, just remember, your dog was lucky to have you as well. I am so sorry. xoxoxo. K

I don't recall if I've ever mentioned it here before, but we lost our first kitty Annika to FIP a few years ago. It was heartbreaking. I know how you feel. Pets are special.

Take care.

Thank you. I am sorry about you losing your kitty. It is heartbreaking. Hope your heart has been able to heal. Mr. Sickness (Knuckles ) is looking at me to feed him again. Good sign maybe? Hope so.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, Bman. We had to say goodbye to our 10 year old golden retriever a couple of weeks ago. They leave an awful hole in the house.

Thanks Brynn, I'm sorry about your retriever.

...One of the worst parts about all this is how every few hours I still get the urge to go for a walk.

It's true. And it seems wherever I go, people are out walking their golden retrievers. I also miss the eye contact, and the constant checking in for hugs and back scratches.

Brynn and Bman,

I hope your hearts begin to heal. I know it will take a long time. But, I am hoping in the next few weeks, months, or however long it takes, you will both become dog owners (parents) again. There are dogs or puppies out there that would be so fortunate to have you.
