bi-weekly theme project: advantage
some of you folks may remember this feature on the board- basically the idea is create an interpretation of a theme.
If you don't like this week's theme, wait two weeks and it'll change. Better yet, pm me with suggestions. This week's theme is advantage. Have at it. |

Not feeling I truly understand the mission, I feel that others may have the advantage of me here.
Taking a wild stab at it: As a 6'3" person I am able to pluck things off of shelving out of reach of those not similarly advantaged...but each advantage has its down side. I also bump my head on low slung chandeliers put up by my lesser statured friends. |

Advantage - the ability to sit back and react, reading my own mind while others struggle, trying to grapple with what it means when I say "have fun".
Advantage- vantages leads to different rights, views, responsibilities. Is it the advantage to know many, to spread yourself thin over the human experience, so much so that people can see through you like a wet klennex? Or to know just a few, the marathon into the depths, passing by many others watching you run past with your determination, mistaking it for aloofness? advantages- drug enhanced athletic performances. tax-cuts. nepotism. harvard business school. first-class. gold-star member. ritz. new york yankees. acronyms. ribbons. blond hair. dark hair. curly. straight. bi. blue eyes. brown eyes. green eyes. black skin. white skin. noncolor. all color. man. woman. speaking out. shutting up. wisdom. ignorance. money. poverty. beauty and grace. poor eyesight. when there is no wind, row. |

in human experience every advantage has built into it an equal disadvantage. wealth, while it provides comfort and luxury, also seperates the wealthy from the broader human experience. sensitivity, while it allows the gifted to percieve the world more fully, subjects them to see the painful experiences in life more keenly. tall people ca reach the upper shelf but the also have to see their friend's dandruff easily. short people can relate to pets and children more readily but they need step ladders in every room. but there is an optimistic way of looking at this equation. if every advantage has it's built in advantages then logically every disadvantage has it's built in advantages. this knowledge comes in handy when we're feeling critical of ourselves but it's really useful in our appraisal of others.

There is always someone more advantaged, and always many many people with fewer advantages, compared to you.
Being able to stop comparing is the only thing that makes it possible to give from a sense of abundance.

when a task challenged his laziness, he smiled sheepishly. it became easier for them to do the work for him. he used his helplessness to his advantage.
as he was no help to his family, he was to be sent away. slowly he became preoccupied and obsessed over the possible limitations of helplessness. sleeping became a nightmare. sitting before the fire a mindfvck. he tried to work but the anchor had long ago been dropped inside him; when he tried to make his mind focus on a task, his body willed against with stubborn dedication. nobody bothered him anymore, except to make sure nothing was wrong. they brought him candies from the store. he wasn't going to be sent away. his eyes never lost the glow of alert dread. but, worry, too, became his advantage. |
