Most cargo ships have some accomodations that can be booked. The food is simple...usually their is a crew recreation room that can be used.
You would have to pick her up in NYC or some other East coast port.

Actually, those freighter passages, although frequent on the Atlantic, can cost as much or more than a plane ticket. Not to mention the time loss and the huge potential for not arriving where you want to.
Fun for if you want to pretend to rough it on the sea, but other than that, cargo surfing can be a pain in the ass.
