1) Have you ever been fired? If so, from what job & what was the reason given? If not, please skip to question 6.
I was laid off, does that count? The company was downsizing. 2) Were you offered a severance package? Did you accept it? Were there any stipulations? I was offered 1 weeks pay for every year I had worked there plus all unused vacation pay. I accepted it and there were no stipulations. Companies are not obligated to give you serverance. 3) What about COBRA? Did you accept it? How much was it, if you don't mind my asking? How long were you on it? I went onto my husband's insurance. 4) Did you collect unemployment? For how long? Any problems w/that? Yes I did. I collected for six weeks. I had no problems. 5) How long did it take you to find a new job? How many interviews did you go on, resumes did you send out? I found a place to work the day my severance ran out-six weeks. I went on three interviews and sent out three resumes-not counting online resumes. 6) What did you want to be when you were a little kid? What do you do now? I wanted to be a cartoonist. I'm a graphic designer. 7) Ever had luck w/temp agencies? Describe! Umm, no. The artist placement type agencies suck. You don't get paid half as much you could if you found the place yourself. But there is the problem. You have to find the place yourself. 8) Use this space to leave your words of wisdom for me & Red Princess, who have lost our jobs this week. network, network, network. It's the best way to find something. The paper is for chumps. Most places that need someone, are too busy to look for someone, so the need gets mentioned to someone, let's say a vendor and the vendor has contacts to other people in the industry and spreads the word in order to help their client. Contact old biz contacts and vendors you'vce used in the past. Get chummy with everyone. Let them know you are looking. Leads come from the strangest places sometimes. 9) Use this space, to tell us in your own words you best/worst firing story. It does not have to involve you. worst The company that laid me off laid one of my coworkers off the day she went into labor. Tacky. |
