Taupe

"They say Taupe is very soothing"
Why must hallways always be painted this color?
Why not blue?
Orange?
Red?
Why this "almost-color"
that makes one think of hospitals
of government buildings
and the principal's office.
I swear, Mr. Principal, I didn't mean
to TP your house
just like you didn't mean
to paint your walls
Taupe.
