I think that governments in general are scared of people making their choices. They like to keep us under control, be that by means of restrictive laws or by means of cultural control. What scares me is not just that there is a political debate about gay rights, but that there is very little flow of information about homosexuality and bisexuality. I am 30 years old and the very first time i read something serious about bisexuality was less than one year ago. At that time i was struggling with my own bisexuality, without even realizing what was happening to me. That's even more unfair than putting people before a political problem. I felt deprived of the very basic right to be happy with myself.
I am surely in favor of gays' right to get married, have or adopt children, live safe in their country. But i believe there are other dimensions of emancipation as well and they should not be forgotten. Anyway it's nice that this issue is brought up here. And zen's post is really great! |
