Yeah, but they lie so much, and with total impunity, it seems only right that a few stories slanted the other way slip through now and then.

According to wonkette.com, the online version of the Washington Post ran the story, although I didn't see it when I followed their link.

While it's completely unsubstantiated, it seems too kooky to be made up. I wanna believe!!

(Or actually, I want OTHERS to believe. Y'know, just the other day I heard the thing again about the Ws missing from the White House keyboards. The story's got legs.)

I heard through the grapevine that the W-keyboard thing was true. It was a hazing ritual, meant as a joke.

I believe it, no problem. Now, if they said he had a sense of humor about the whole thing and asked to have his picture taken with the kids and here it is, THAT would be a photoshopped piece of bullshit, and we'd all know it was fake. Why? Because the guy has NO sense of humor about himself. But the bird-flipping? Sure I believe it. It's in character.

Which would be a really evil way to make a false story sound true, telling one that was just close enough to possible to be credible. But I don't think that's what happened here.

i understand you can use a program like photoshop or something to alter pictures like that. i've never tried it personally.
