We did the same thing Spart, and you are too right: it is worth it to just know where they are and that they are safe. We got lucky because by the time daughter and boyfriend could drive, it was so ingrained in them, they voluntarily checked in and stuck close to home.
OR SO I THOUGHT.

Daughter informs me they were just cheap and wanted to save money, so they stayed home. That's okay too as son-in-law paid his own way through college
