Epidural > ^ rate of ventouse, forceps, stalled labour, section.

They also have their place (God yes!) but 4cm is just asking for trouble.

IMH but well researched O.

Oh and, best advice ever (for just in case the bstd is sleeping with his gf instead of giving you the good stuff); use the gas, but breathe it in really deep as soon as you feel one coming on, when it hits is too late :-(

Nice thing about epidurals is if there is the need for a c-section they can just go ahead without general anesthaesia - had one under general, one under epidural and one under spinal - spinal was best of all - over and done in 20 minutes, up and making my bed three hours later!
love

There are very few problems in the world that can't be helped by the use of a well-placed morphine suppository. Or explosives.

yo snake, I think you may be right about 4cm being premature. I want the drugs to work when then pain is bad.

I am currently 2-3cm already and have been feeling nothing.

^^

Excellent start, muhahaha! (Sorry, couldn't help adding that muhahaha).

General rule of thumb is 6 - 7cm AND in established labour AND when the pain is no longer manageable (you'll know when).

And, if at that point they tell you the anesthetist is tied up for an hour, shout, "WHO PUT YOU UP TO THIS?" -- say nothing else -- repeatedly until he arrives.

p.s. I am jealous of your toes
