When I get home from work and get out of my work clothes, into my comfy clothes and I sit down and eat dinner. I take a deep breath and start relaxing.

Waking up Saturday morning... Monday to Friday I undersleep, Sunday I oversleep, Saturday I sleep juuuuuust right.
Walking home from the tram, I go along the path alongside the canal, which cuts through some quiet streets. You can't hear any traffic and it's usually empty of people except for me. Occasionally you will see a bat that hangs around (literally) there. Sometimes you will see one of the rats that live down there too. Or out of the darkness, a quack, from a duck sitting in the water. So usually it's just me and the other secretive animals. And you can look up, and see the stars through the leaves on the gum trees, and imagine, for a moment, you are not in the middle of the suburbs. After a too long day, the minute between when you hit the bed and the point beyond which you can't remember any more, when your mind and your body feel like blissfully dissolving knots. |

When I wake up in the middle of the night and stare out into the moonlit back yard for a few minutes, watching cats and other creatures stalking through the garden, and think about all of the amazing things that go on between the hours of midnight and dawn while the world's asleep.

After about the first hour, when the morning stiffness wears off and the anti-inflammatories kick in, and for a couple of hours I move around largely without reminders.

I enjoy those nights where I really have nothing to do. I sit around trying to find things to do and then I just lay on the couch and watch reruns. It is relaxing because Im not expected anywhere.

The very silent moment when evening falls and the blackbirds are singing.
The moment when I fall asleep and I see all those faces coming by, like the Crying video clip of Godley & Creme, but this rarely happens, alas And when I am in the north of France and see the milkey way and feel so "nietig" (small, diminutive, don't know the right word). |

Every morning, Jake and I, get up and get ready for the day.
While Grace is taking a shower, we crawl back into bed and "hide from Momma". Those moments in the filtered light under the covers waiting for Grace to come find us are just the best moments of my life. We hide there giggling and "taking peeks" until Grace comes in saying "Jake? Mark? Where are you guys?" all the while Jake is cracking up and I am saying "Shsss, you're giving us a way" and then Grace says, "I hear something under the covers" and Jake Squeals with delight as Grace pulls the covers off us to discover us hiding there. |

Friday at 5:45pm, when I'm home from work, I've changed clothes, I'm sitting on the couch with my takeout and the remote control making plans with friends, and I've got the whole weekend stretched out in front of me.

the end of the night, around 10ish after a day of eating breakfast, lunch and a really big dinner.. i like to come upstairs and for the next 30 mins or so, take the longest dump of my life. The house is quiet, i can feel myself getting lighter by the minute - and sometimes ill read shampoo and hair product bottles to add to the serenity.
It truly is my moment of zen after a big long workday. |

JT, you are truly a prince among men.
Mine is the half hour of reading in bed before I fall asleep, total relaxation and not really giving a f+++ about the next day because I've got a whole night's sleep ahead of me and whatever I might be worrying about, I know there's nothing I can do about it now and in any case it's always better in the morning. |
