Snake has been very smiley and chipper, even though terribly jet lagged. She remains asleep; I don't think she slept much in her four days of travel, really.
The ratlet presented her with some "beaver droppings" (candied almonds) and I gave her a fanny pack emblazoned with Canada logos -- fanny is a different word in Australia and I just had to get her a fanny pack. She gave me a late birthday gift of a glass cheese tray inset with Wolf Blass labels -- we share a great fondness for the Blass people. I took her on the scenic tour from the airport home, avoiding the freeways so we could go through the river valley and Strathcona. She spotted an "antiques mall" off Whyte Ave in Strathcona and squealed, so I'll try to get her there today. Once home I introduced her to the ultra-Christian Flanders-type neighbours for a cheap thrill (she behaved), showed her round the place, and we had some Thai takeout and chardonnay, listened to a brief and somewhat painful violin concert (did you know snake can tune a violin? I can't, and my daughter plays), and watched a Firefly episode on the big screen so she could see what I'm always on about. Her bag arrived midway through and is now safely in her room. Good service by Air Canada! Mostly we were both pretty tired. Today I hope to take her down to Whyte Ave, where we can find some antiques to browse and Katie can join us for lunch in an outdoor cafe. Tomorrow -- road trip to Jasper! -- and I recently received my snazzy new work laptop. I think that it's very likely I'll need to do some work while there, don't you?

Keep the work part down to about a minute and you'll have that accomplished easily.
For some reason, I have trouble envisioning snake as ever "squealing". I can see the getting-excited-about-seeing-an-antiques-mall part, but squealing? Have fun y'all!

Did some-one say Paypal? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Did I mention they still owe me $175 from four years ago?
Feeling a bit better today, jetlag will not win especially when Trisherina has a ready supply of Xanax. Mmmmmmmmmmmm, drugs. Off to find me a mountie.

Maddy, I'm quite relieved to know you are safe and in Edmonton with all of your luggage!
I hope I can finish my show early tonight so I could get some sleep and head out early tomorrow! I can't wait for Jasper! Is there a pool where we're staying? Are you gals bringing your bathing suits? I'm so bad at packing. I'm so excited and nervous about driving my new car alone on a road trip for the first time. AHHHHHH!!!! Sim is so going to go crazy dealing with me tonight! I can't wait for tomorrow! |

Unique too. Only shared by 20 million others. So today we have taken Katie the Wonder Dog (and she really is a wonder) and had a wander through the cultural end of Edmonton. Trish managed to find me two antique markets with which to amuse myself no end. Well, I would have amused myself no end if I had been a little more awake, grrrrrrrrrrrrr jetlag. We had a really good yiros (which they call something odd here, I forget) for lunch then I stocked Trish up with cheese and joy of joys, found some Mersyndol in a chemist. Just like at home, only less than half the price. My baby is apparently doing remarkably well at home, opening a present from the $1 shop every day and chatting happily to me about that....a great relief all round. Tomorrow is the big road trip to Jasper, yippee. Zaff - pool, yes, bathers, yes, hot springs YES. See you tomorrow!

Donairs? I'll have to look that one up.
With 95 + days in our forecast for the next week or so, how I envy y'all up there! Remember us here in the swamp while you bask by the pool and/or hot springs!
