Ridiculously mundane
So since I need advice, I figured I'd put it in a thread that could actually last.
Post your ridiculously mundane questions, answers, tidbits and advice. Here's mine - I have a lovely Indian/Moroccan themed shirt with beautiful stitching around the neckline. Problem is, the "edges" of the neckline are very scratchy and so I can't wear the shirt. I've washed it several times in fabric softener - no luck. I can't remove the stitching, it's part of the overall design. To do so would ruin the shirt. And unfortunately, the scratchy part is in the front, not in the back where I could hide tape or whatever under my hair. If you have any suggestions for how I can fix this, I'd appreciate it.

![]() The difference is, this shirt has fabric between where the stitching ends and the seam of the neckline. The shirt I have, the stitching goes all the way out to the neckline and is actually used to create the seam of the neckline. Madasacutsnake - what is "fuller's earth"? PFP - I'll set that up tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone - yes, Dinz, even you and your LEWD suggestion. ![]()

How about a soft silk scarf as a lining? Probably look weird, but maybe an old one, sewn in would work?

sapphire - that's an indian top which is part of a trousers, long top and scarf set called a salwaar kameez. indian women wear it as an alternative to a sari, and children wear it until they're old enough to wear a sari (i think that's when they get married, though i may be wrong). just a random bit of information, especially as xfox suggested a scarf - that would be v authentic ![]() |

A scarf is a fab idea. My instant reaction was "sew some lining in!". If you found thread the exact color of the shirt you could sew it in between the embroidering and at most it would accent that stitching. Then you could tell us how the thread worked on the thread.
My mundane question: How do you get crickets out from under your fridge (without destroying the fridge or impairing its ability to function) so that you can kill them because they are echoing in your small, boxy studio that is a converted garage? |

fuller's earth
mineral substance characterized by the property of absorbing basic colors and removing them from oils. It is composed mainly of alumina, silica, iron oxides, lime, magnesia, and water, in extremely variable proportions, and is generally classified as a sedimentary clay . In color it may be whitish, buff, brown, green, olive, or blue. It is semiplastic or nonplastic and may or may not disintegrate easily in water. It was originally used in the fulling of wool to remove oil and grease but is now used chiefly in bleaching and clarifying petroleum and secondarily in refining edible oils. Fuller's earth is mined in many parts of the United States, Georgia and Florida being the leading producers, and in England near Reigate, Nutfield, and Bath. Before it can be used, it has to be crushed and dried. You should be able to buy a bag of it at a chemist or health food store.
