I've stayed in many B&Bs and Inns - two of my favorites included:
One B&B had 5 rooms, each with its own bathroom - very important feature in my book. But what I liked so much about it was the way they handled breakfast and lunch - lunch was basically buffet style - sandwich fixings, salads, etc. Breakfast was available for several hours - primarily continental and then you could order your eggs made however you wanted. I just really enjoyed the fact that you didn't HAVE to get up at a certain time or make it back in for lunch in a short window of time. Dinner was optional - if you didn't show up, you didn't get charged for that meal and got a small refund when you checked out. The other touted itself as a B&B, but I'm not sure that's an accurate label for it. There was a main house and (I think) 4 cabins. Each cabin had a well-stocked mini-kitchen and you ordered the items you wanted it stocked with before you arrive. All meals were available in the main house, or you could fix something in your cabin or, for a slight extra charge, have a meal prepared in the main house and delivered to your cabin. The best feature of both was that the innkeepers were extremely unobtrusive. I can't stand having someone hover. I also liked another B&B we stayed in where each room also had a small sitting room with a fireplace. Somewhere around here I have a guide to B&Bs all over the world - I know they have a website - lots of guest reviews, AAA rating information, etc. I don't go to B&Bs that aren't listed by them and so far, I've not had a single bad experience.
