Well, THAT's depressing. Thanks. :/

I'd like to know where those grocery prices came from -- 1957? The items on the list would cost at least two to three times that in the SF Bay Area.

Vegetarian

It is pretty tough to go cheaply if you're a vegetarian who watches the protein intake (as all vegetarians should.)

BUT, I save $$$ by making a pot of soup at least once of week, freezing some and taking some for lunch to work.

I make veggie chili, potato soup, taco soup and spaghetti sauce...all vegetarian, all yummy.

I make the sauce every Sunday...

Did you read the history of them? The early American farmers would cook the corn mush over the fire on their hoes. Ya think the hoes were clean or did that just add to the texture? Just thinking.

^^ Ha ha ha !

I want to make hoe cakes just so that the next time there is a big family function, and everyone is supposed to bring something, I can be famous for Hoe Cakes. Then everyone can go about saying, "Ooo...I hope she brings those hoe cakes." Then, I'll only serve them if every one shouts "Hooooooeeeeee! Hoooooooeeeeeeee!" all house music style...
