I took my boys (8 and almost 11) to see the movie - they enjoyed it, but they were familiar with the book.
I thought it was interesting that the director said that he was surprised to find that C.S. Lewis devoted only one paragraph to the battle in the book, and he had to make it all up.

Although the movie has to suffer by comparison to "Lord of the Rings" I have to say, I didn't find myself wincing and cowering as much as I did during the battle scenes in "Rings," which was far more violent, if that's all we're talking about.

The palate of colors was brighter, more child-like. Except for the battle scenes, the movie was very faithful to the books and to the overall spirit.

I think when it comes to movies like that, I'm grateful as a parent to see big stories about the battle between good and evil instead of more morally ambiguous themes in movies like "Star Wars 3," where all the boys walk out wanting to be Darth Vader.
