School Films
What movies do you remember from school?
Free to Be You and Me tops my list. Also the driving film where they showed actual accidents. And... I can't seem to remember much about it or who it was... it's haunting me... He was a goofy hippy guy with a beard and overalls and used to paint and fall down alot. Mr Sunshine? Happy something? It is me crazy. From the 70s. ANyone know?????

The "charley says" public information films..... starring Charley and his mangy cat.
Among the subjects covered were the dangers of matches, wandering off with strange men, playing with stoves and table cloths and falling in canals. ![]() ![]() |

One of my favorite school film series was Walt Disney's safety-themed I'm No Fool, starring everybody's favorite conscience, Jiminy Cricket.

They used to show one every other Christmas about the true meaning of Christmas. It was about a pioneer family. The main character was a boy named...Bebanco??? Was how everyone said his name. He had a little sister & went for a walk with his dad in the snow.
The other one I remember was about immigrants when everyone was coming to America in the early 1900's. There was a scene w/a boy eating lunch in the schoolyard w/all the other kids, and he was eating a potato. Some other kids came up to him & offered him a banana & he didn't know how to eat it, took a bite w/o peeling it. All the other kids laughed & he chased them around the playground. And then one in 5th grade, with a song about how Injuns were known as "savages". Oh & the little kid filmstrip we watched in 10th grade Spanish class--LOS TRES OSOS.

Future Shock
They showed this to us for some reason in the 6th grade. A film version of a book from around that time. I'm still waiting for fashions to get around to folks dying their entire bodies green, pink, blue and purple. |

I found the name of the film with the old hippie guy!
They were the "Uncle Smiley" films! He would ride around in a VW bus with kids learning about conservation and similar issues. Geesh - if I could only find out where to see them again. Sigh.
