Aloe vera direct from the plant will help reduce the likelihood of scarring. The reason your soup "kind of exploded" probably had to do with superheating. Read about it here in greater detail, but suffice it to say that liquids are best heated no more than one minute at a time (stopping after each minute to stir), or with a stir stick of some sort inserted.

See if you can score some lignocaine gel from a medical friend.

I'd be putting an "occlusive" dressing like Op-site on it. Once it's not exposed to the air, it won't hurt so much and you can shower etc with no pain. Op-site is great for preventing scarring as well.

Thanks Trisher, and Mad...

Update: I had three cocktails last night and put a coldpack wrapped in a towel against it. Also got some of the numbing spray and some aloe vera, but I don't know anyone who can score me some lignocaine gel.

I woke up this morning and the fingers are numb, bright red and tight from the swelling, but I'm not in the pain I was yesterday. Now, it's just uncomfortable. Kind of tough to get all dolled up for work this morning (and it sucks to have to work at 8:00 on a Saturday, but I should just be thankful I have a good job, so I'll quit whining!)

Thanks for all your tips...I'm praying it doesn't blister and scar up...this is like, half my hand!

Thanks, Mad...

I just ordered some Op-site. I should have ordered it when you posted. My hand is totally wrecked.

Fluid will build up under the Op-site. Instead of changing the Op-site, puncture it with a sterilised pin and let the fluid drain. The longer you can go between changes the better.

Did anyone else think "lawsuit" when they first read this thread?

ZIMH - take some pictures of your hand and send them to the company that makes the soup, with a gentle suggestion that they put a warning on the can label that microwaves have different wattages - and that they should build into the directions that you should leave the soup in the microwave for a minute before you remove it.

Poor baby. I hope it heals quick.

Madasacutsnake is a genius...(but you already knew that, didn't you?)

Thanks, La, for your thoughts and well wishes. I might just do that, though I'm happy to say, it's getting better.

Thanks To Madasacutsnake!

I got my Op site in the mail and guess what? I LOVE IT! Instant relief. It was like putting skin back on my fingers where there is now none. Because it is clear, its a little gorey now because you can see the florescent redness that was once fingers beneath the film, but that's OK! It feels sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much better.

And it's itching, which must mean healing which means I'm growing new fingers. And Trisherina? I plan to put aloe on when the Op site comes off. Good plan!

Thanks for being so nice and helpful everybody. Burns suck. Be careful with the microwaves!
