Right On!
I also served in the military (Army) from 1971 - 1974. What Stephen is saying is absolutly true. I never associated my service to anything political. Of course I was aware of the debate concerning Viet Nam at the time. But that was a debate for civilians and not my province.
For the generals to speak out is enormously significate. As they undoubtly did during active service, subjecting themselves to unknown danger, they are doing here. And they do it for America, selflessly. Can that be ignored? Should that be ignored? Not in my book. Also notice that the criticism is directed at the Secretary of Defence and not at the president. The president is the Commander-in-Chief and as such is viewed by the military to be sacrosanct.
