So I go to the refrigerator and I get the damned BACON and the SAUSAGE, makin' breakfast at six o'clock [BLAM] in the MORNING, and then I GRAB THE - you have to be careful with eggs.

Partial transcript of Bill Cosby’s remarks May 17, 2004 at Constitution Hall commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court school desegregation decision in Brown vs. Board of Education:

Quote:
People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around. ... The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit. Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12? Where were you when he was 18, and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol? And where is the father?

People putting their clothes on backward: Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong? ... People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something, or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up? Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up ... and got all type of needles (piercing) going through her body? What part of Africa did this come from? We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a ... thing about Africa.

We have millionaire football players who can't read. We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs.

With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap, and all of them are in jail. Brown vs. the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back. ... They are standing on the corner and they can't speak English.

People used to be ashamed. ... [Today] a woman has eight children with eight different "husbands," or men or whatever you call them now.

The idea is to one day get out of the projects. You don't just stay there.

We as black folks have to do a better job. ... Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us. We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.

The incarcerated? These are not political criminals. These are people going around stealing Coca-Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake and then we run out and we are outraged, saying, "The cops shouldn't have shot him." What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand?

We cannot blame white people.

I was just at the grocery store. My fridge & freezer died while I was @ Mayo Clinic. I had to replace the whole thing.

If I'd known it was Bill birthday, I would've bought some Puddin Pops!!!

I can't stand him. He cheats on his wife, and is a pontificating turd. He did, however, make black people part of the landscape on tv that didn't look like fools...

He's 69.

He's a great, hardworking and highly creative entertainer. He brought a great deal of happiness into my life growing up. He may not be a perfect man - but neither were almost every single great entertainer or leader in history. It's very nice that we can all keep our private lives secret - not so easy when it's paraded in front of the public by the media. I daresay the public would have a great deal to say about *our* lives and statements; our past indescretions and mistakes. People **** up all the time; not all of them have do it in public.

This is a thread for celebrating the life and work of Bill Cosby. If you don't like the man and want to talk about whether or not his life's work is valid, or any entertainers' or artists' or, for that matter, our countries' leaders' work is valid in light of their faults and indescretions, we should start a Debate Hall thread about it. In fact, I think that would be a really good idea.

he is a racist.his speech that he made in 2004 that trished posted may seem like it had merit, but he did the same thing that he is telling blacks not to do, blame the white man. it was the twanna brawley case. this is the same case that made the reverend al a household name. also if you watch the cosby show all the white people were never played in a good light. they were always played as stupid or fat of goofy.then there are his personal indescrections.man is an idiot. he also dissed wanda sykes on a awards show. made him look like a bigger ass.also lala as long as i have been on this board i have NEVER seen a thread stay on topic. please.
