old is when something is advancing towards the end of the average lifespan of said specific object

old can coexist with a lot of other adjectives:

old and graceful
old and weathered
old and nice
old and wise

A good definition either! But then again, it's also a number thing based on some average lifespan, but I think it's more a case to case thing, depending on each object/person and the person perceiving the age/oldness of latter. Think for example of mothers/fathers for whom their daughter/son in a way always stays a young child, no matter if they are going towards 60 themself. Or think of something you find in the bulky waste at the side of the street, something you absolutely dig, whereas somebody else considered it 'old' (in the negative sense) and threw it away.
Thank you for bringing in the positive sides of 'being old'! (which for many people - in the 'highly civilised' Western world at least - are not that outstanding - including myself unfortunately... )

All the people in America, all the people outside of America

I also think it's a case by case thing. I know some people well into their 90 that are so active, healthy, and full of life that there is no way I can consider them old. At the same time I know 50 yr. olds that are the completely deteriorating. The same could be said of different objects. I think "old" is just a perception based on the energy that radiates from people and objectes.

old is turning around and unlocking the front door because you've forgotten the remote control to the garage, and then remembering it's clenched between your teeth.

... when you see your dentures lying in the driveway, still clenching the remote.

Old is when you're late you can't find your car keys and you realize three hours later, once your rendez-vous is over, that you put them in the refrigerator.

I've done that, but mine were in the freezer. I've also been known to run around looking for my glasses or sunglasses when they are perched on top of my head.

The older I get, the older what I think of as "old" gets. My mom no longer seems old, and the age at which my father died (53) now seems ridiculously young. I also find that I don't think of myself as being my age. People my age are supposed to be settled and mature. I meet people my age and they seem much more grown up than me. I meet people 10 years younger than me and think, "oh, they're about my age". Weird.
