It's all very clever. If you listen closely, he's using neurolinguistic programming, which doesn't work well on everyone, but there are also the usual magician's camera tricks and stooges. He's quite a good hypnotist on people who are susceptible, however.
Conducting an orchestra by thought. He says "see" so many times that I wonder if it's a word he conditioned the conductor to respond to by thinking of the specific piece, in earlier contact that isn't shown on film. An explanation of some of his suggestion techniques. Subliminal advertising works on the advertisers. Think about this the next time you're craving Ring Dings. An example of faking a psychic reading.. I still don't know how he does it -- I wonder even if he's faking the way it's faked... |

It's fascinating, isn't it? That's Derren Brown -- there are tons of clips on YouTube.
I should admit that I use a little suggestion myself in my line of work, but I only use it for good and not evil! I'm certified to teach relaxation, and I both use a little hypnosis on my clients (with their express consent!) and teach them to hypnotise themselves. It can be surprisingly effective in terms of mental relaxation, pain relief, etc., but it varies a lot from person to person. I'm sure Brown only shows his best attempts. It really is scary, tho'...we don't realize how much of our apparently conscious thought is obscure to us and therefore susceptible to manipulation. |

I'm still not sure this isn't faked one way or another, but the subtitles at the end are interesting. The wrist grab is called anchoring.
I want a BMX bike. |
