All but one of the red basils perished, the green ones are thriving. I wonder why. I planted them at the same time. Should I retry with the red ones? I've got a few seeds left.

Make sure they are not being over watered. The green basil is the the native or natural plant so the red may be touchy. Are they planted in the ground or in a container? Let me know!!

In a container, on the windowsill. Half of the container is green, the other half should have been red.

It's a southeast window, so from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There weren't any leaves to speak of, just those thin, threadlike stems, they whithered and died soon after they showed up.
It was really intriguing, because the green ones, in the same container, having the same conditions of water and sun and soil are fine. |

The red basil plants are telling you, "NOT happy!" So I'd stay with the green. The red are a genetic variety so they are sensitive to light conditions and other problems. They look pretty but the green taste better!!

Oh.
I haven't had red ones before, but it's at least I know now that they aren't as good as green basil. Thanks! ![]() |
