bling-bling has to be the funniest terminology of the new century......
The latest edition of the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary includes the terms bling-bling - "(The wearing of) expensive designer clothing and flashy jewellery", and bad ass - "A tough, aggressive, or uncooperative person; a trouble-maker." |

I know! And listening to adults using it in everyday language is hysterical! First it was rappers and the Back Street Boys "Yo, baby check out my bling-bling! Ain't it foine? Ain't I foine?!" And now actors are wandering around saying, "I just bought myself some new bling-bling on Rodeo Drive to go with my new Chanel suit. Nice? I think so." Makes me laugh out loud, "Hahahahahaha!" Just like that.

It cracks me up that "Yo, badass, you got your bling bling on." Is now considered proper english!

Bling-bling, apparently, is the sound monster ass jewellery makes when they bounce off of one another. "Check out my righteous bling-bling!" is heard when people are bragging about their platinum/gold diamond studded chains. I've tried smacking my rings together but all I get is a faint tinny sound and red hands.

i think that bling bling is the sound that you can see... when the light reflects off of the ice to temorarily blind you, you can't see, right? so the thing you hear instead is "blingbling" it's a visual thing. ^__^

for sheezy
... and the evolution continues:
It used to be only jewlery reference like gold teeth or chains, but it's developed into a generic substitute for other nouns and verbs too: Noun: "I rolled up in dat party bustin' my bling-bling, and she was all over me" Verb: "I pulled up to the light with my trunk junk bumpin', windows down, blingin' like THAT." Ya herd? Quinton____________________________________ "You can take the boy out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the boy." |

shizzle my nizzle
Cause i'm straight blingin' yo! Well, at least people arn't using the word "phat" as much anymore, that was annoying. My brother was dancing with a girl from switzerland at a wedding once and said to her "man, you are phat!" She slapped him and left the dance floor. He couldn't figure out why she got upset. I love that story.
Here is a great Critical analysis of "Bling Bling" http://www.w0wz3rz.com/bling/ |

interesting word history... Bling Bling got it's start from Dana Dane in the 80s (he said it alot, including "Bling bling bling, it's time fo homeroom" in "Nightmares."
Lots of rappers in the 80s and 90s started this new lingo. |
