Over here in the U.S., I think, the country has for the most part been so overwhelmingly Christian, that it's been kind of a wake-up call that there are now so many of other faiths/no faith speaking up.
From my personal orbit, Christians understand the concept of all religions peacefully coexisting and having equal rights, but the reality is a little difficult. I think if say, in all this controversy over the display of the 10 Commandments, Muslims were to say, "Fine, but here's a copy of the Quran to add" Christians would say "But, but..." and then trot out the argument that our country is historically Christian, like that would somehow make it ok. I'm not expressing myself well but hopefully you get my gist. By the way, I'm Christian. |
