On the 26th all of my siblings and their spouses and children were at my dads house. We had just finished our gift exchange when these oh-so-famous words escaped my father's lips.
"I have an announcement to make." I thought he was going to introduce my brother's birthday, because we planned a little surprise for him. Or maybe that he found a job and had to move.. but nothing prepared me for what he was going to say. What did he say? Basically, he said one of his friends introduced him to this girl this past March. She's 33 and lives in the Phillipines with her 3 children. He's going over there for 2 weeks this coming January. He says that he doesn't know what will come of it, but he wouldn't tell us if there wasn't something serious. I said, "well dad, just don't come back married." Instead of a positive, no, I won't come back married he says, "Well Philipino's have this custom that if you take their women you have to marry them on their soil, but we could always have another wedding here. In fact, one of my friends did this and it took them 9 months to get through the immigration papers." My mind was reeling. Now, I do think this could potentially be a good thing, because my brother and I are growing up and won't be visiting him much anymore. My brother is a freshman in high school, and I am a senior, getting ready to graduate and move on to college. I have been worried about him becoming lonely after we aren't around anymore. Worried sick actually. But see, I'm just a little worried that this woman is after my dad as a ticket to the united states, because she's only 33 and my father is 50 something. Although they did meet through a mutual friend. I'm sure everything will be just fine, after all we all share the same faith (Christian) and I don't think she would do something like that... would she? Boy, I sure don't know. I guess I'll just trust my father's decision. Anyway, I just had to share this with someone before I go mad! I've never really thought of my father remarrying... I guess he's just been divorced all my life, always to be that way. I felt the same when my mom got remarried, but you just get used to it. Man alive. This is my life. haha
