Even tho I got no kids; I cannot deny
I coulda been a daddy but Instead I got high A kind of Peter Pan man you got to understand I didn’t choose to grow up in this land And even though my momma she used to bellow Responsibility be the rules of a fellow And I’d mellow with age, be the wise old sage But my brains remain like a kid I’m encaged At each stage of childhood, it's wild and good In a state of grown up tots it’s understood Why drive to survive a nine to five While the chillums still warm and the dawn arrives To drive away the other brothers that say You gotta mature J and lose another day No way I say cos you know nightly I God bless the child inside me I spy through a child’s eye Every pain or pleasure parents ever deny Gateaux, ganja, got some for tea I‘m a grown up kid and there’s no one to bother me A big fat bong for breakfast Don’t know whether I got the first or last It's a lungful of fun as you wanna rerun Like back in the day like when it just wasn’t done Don’t wanna return, I’m gonna stay here and burn Another head in my bed, a babe on the turn Ten years ago a friend of mine Said by now we’d've run out of rhyme You blind fool, you forgot the old school You're crap in rappin’ and rotten in duel They gave up to grow up, now they step and hide God bless the child inside I’m trip, trip, tripping, the years keep slipping On by, but I’m so high and I’m still gripping The sky. Living off lyrics, ain’t given to gimmicks ‘n’ My peers appear to let age inhibit them Friends from college. The ones that I acknowledge Over-aged, over-stressed and yes, over-nourished Lost the hunger, becoming just a number Old before their time, left like lumber Some stagnated and castrated their hardcore mind So I climb back to my world each rap is hurled Like a flag in my hand each lyric unfurled Wild like the child in the mind of a man You try to outstyle my mission and plan Confess, you’re jealous of the vibe I ride God bless the child inside - JC001

To a Boy-Poet of the Decadence
Showing a curious reversal of the epigram -- “La nature l’a fait sanglier; la civilization l’a reduit a l’etat de cochon.” Owen Seamen But my good little man, you have made a mistake If you really are pleased to suppose That the Thames is alight with the lyrics you make: We could all do the same if we chose. From Solomon down we may read, as we run, Of the ways of a man and a maid; There is nothing that’s new to us under the sun And certainly not in the shade. The erotic affairs that you fiddle aloud Are as vulgar as coin of the mint; And you merely distinguish yourself from the crowd By the fact that you put them in print. You’re a ‘prentice, my point, in the primitive stage, And you itch, like a boy, to confess: When you know a bit more of the arts of the age You will probably talk a bit less. For your dull little vices we don’t care a fig It is this that we deeply deplore: You were cast for a common or usual pig But you play the invincible bore.

the last time i saw richard - joni mitchell
The last time I saw richard was detroit in ’68, And he told me all romantics meet the same fate someday Cynical and drunk and boring someone in some dark cafe You laugh, he said you think you’re immune, go look at your eyes They’re full of moon You like roses and kisses and pretty men to tell you All those pretty lies, pretty lies When you gonna realise they’re only pretty lies Only pretty lies, just pretty lies He put a quarter in the wurlitzer, and he pushed Three buttons and the thing began to whirr And a bar maid came by in fishnet stockings and a bow tie And she said drink up now it’s gettin’ on time to close. Richard, you haven’t really changed, I said It’s just that now you’re romanticizing some pain that’s in your head You got tombs in your eyes, but the songs You punched are dreaming Listen, they sing of love so sweet, love so sweet When you gonna get yourself back on your feet? Oh and love can be so sweet, love so sweet Richard got married to a figure skater And he bought her a dishwasher and a coffee percolator And he drinks at home now most nights with the tv on And all the house lights left up bright I’m gonna blow this damn candle out I don’t want nobody comin’ over to my table I got nothing to talk to anybody about All good dreamers pass this way some day Hidin’ behind bottles in dark cafes Dark cafes Only a dark cocoon before I get my gorgeous wings And fly away Only a phase, these dark cafe days |

Third Rate Romance
Russell Smith Sitting at a tiny table in a ritzy restaurant She was staring at her coffee cup He was trying to get his courage up by plying booze The talk was small when they talked at all They both knew what they wanted There's no need to talk about it They were old enough to scope it out And still keep it loose She said "You don't look like my type But I guess you'll do" Third rate romance, low-rent rendezvous And he said "I'll tell you I love you If you want me to" Third rate romance, low-rent rendezvous They left the bar, got into his car And they drove away They drove to the Family Inn And she didn't even have to pretend She didn't know what for And he went to the desk, made his request While she waited outside And he came back with the key She said "Give it to me And I'll unlock the door" And she said "I've never done This kinda thing before, have you?" Third rate romance low-rent rendezvous And he said "Yes I have But only a time or two Third rate romance low-rent rendezvous

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions.

Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric.

A reasonable man adapts himself to suit his environment. An unreasonable man persists in attempting to adapt his environment to suit himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
