i could learn to communicate with animals and birds if I could just empathize/imagine completely enough what it would be like to be them.

if I concentrated really hard, I could stop the reception on the TV from fuzzing out due to bad weather. I knew it was possible; the fact that I had never achieved it just meant I couldn't concentrate well enough yet.

that numbers had personalities and lives and strange little dramas going on, mostly because someone told me this joke: "Why is six afraid of seven? Because seven eight nine." So instead of doing my math homework, I imagined that 6 was this scaredy cat and 7 was an evil bully, and 8 was the fat kid, and 9 was the smart kid. 3 was a baby, 4 and 5 were friends, 1 was lonely, 2 was really nice to all the other numbers, etc.
