Hey, in the xmas thread there was a side convo about xmas and people celebrating it who don't believe in Jesus.

So... what does everyone think about that?

I feel that the holiday has become more than a Christian holiday, IMO it's evolved into a time of celebration for friends, family, loved ones ... I don't think it's disrespectful or weird for non-Christians to have a tree or give presents or whatever. I am rusty on my history, but I don't think the tree was originally a Christian symbol anyway, was it?

Chuckie, I am thinking specifically of your comments in the xmas thread ... not to single you out in the "on the spot" sense, but what do you think?

Moi?! LOL

I think you're right, I've a feeling the tree thing comes from pagan beliefs, not sure though..

I don't see it disrespectful that non-christians celebrate Christmas at all, more confusing than anything else. But Christmas is and will always be about Christ. I don't think that can be disputed.

It'd just be nice if people would remember what the real point of it all is.

Hey Chuckie, I'm relieved that you don't think it's disrespectful I think I read more into your comment than was there.

I think I would find it disrespectful if people didn't know who Jesus was and still celebrated xmas with christian trappings ... sort of like fashionistas who wore bindis when that was the thing to do.

What part of the non-celebration do you find confusing? Is the purpose confusing, sorta like... why such a big to-do if it's really kind of an ad hoc thing for non-christians?

Exactly!

Its more frustrating than anything else. Christmas isn't about Christ anymore, its about commercialism. That saddens me.

People get so caught up in the rush, Jesus doesn't even get a thought in it all, and He so should, you know?
