My Vacation
I am back from The Big Island! Thank God. It was fun, but a nice reminder of why I love So Cal so so much. In So CA all you have to do is wake up, throw on shorts, a tank top, and flip flops, and you are fine 90% of the year. And we have good Mexican food. I’ll put pictures up if/when my friends send them to me. Postcards are addressed, all I have to do is fill them out and send them…give me a week
![]() Mini Vacation Review: Our friend built a house in Kona, HI and he let us use the house and his truck for a week. Not a bad deal. We also went to Costco and Walmart and stocked the place up with food and beverages, so we saved a ton of money. Budget Hawaii all the way! If you have never been to The Big Island, it is nothing like you would expect Hawaii to be. The only beaches and sites worth going to require 4WD to get to and the land is mostly barren volcano rock. Luckily, I had already been and came prepared with hiking shoes, water shoes, and hiking stuff. We did *a lot* of off-roading and found a ton of really cool waterfalls and beaches and rain forests and whatnot. The two main highlights of our trip where the Green Sand Beach and Kilauea. They are both a few mile hikes each way to get to, but beyond worth it. The green sand is made from a gem stone (olivine) that is broken down by the ocean. It is beyond gorgeous and I *may have* brought some home ![]() What I Learned: 1.My friends are idiots. I told them to wear sunblock. They told me they wanted to burn a little the first day so they can tan the rest of the time. The ****ers burnt themselves so bad they couldn’t do a damn thing the next day because they couldn’t be anywhere near the sun or move for that matter. 2.I can store tons of random useless information, it is the important stuff that fails to stick. I went to Kona last year and was able to remember how to get everywhere and can spout off a kazillion “interesting facts”, yet I can’t find my way home from L.A. It is ridiculous. 3.I have presumed this before, but I am making the rule official now. Never buy Mexican food anywhere except Southern California. This includes Mexico. Because either A) it will taste nasty, and/or B) it will make you feel nasty. 4.Never go to Hawaii without one of these! Trust me. It is the best vacation investment you can ever make! http://www.wizardpub.com/main/ordering.html 5.Lots of places in Hawaii sell nachos. Yeah! I didn’t find anything that wowed me, but a nacho is a nacho and I was happy to test them out anyways. (The J. Paul Getty Museum is still in first place in the uber nacho race.) We did have to stop one guy and instruct him on the proper layering of cheese. He was just going to sprinkle it on top! What was he thinking ?!? Layer, LAYER! 6.The enjoyability of trips depends 90% on the company that you bring and the amount of sunblock and bug spray you lather on. DON’T BRING IDIOTS! My friends are idiots. I am brilliant. We went through this cycle of me saying something, them counteracting with a “no its not”, then finding out later on “oh you were right”. Of couse I’m right, I’m always right. How hard is that to comprehend ?!? Idiots. I gave up and faked sleeping. So yeah, overall it was nice. I am glad to be back. Watch for postcards. |

WOW! That sounds amazing. Your description of The Big Island makes me want to go visit right now!
You might be okay with Mexican food in Texas. It's Tex-Mex, but it doesn't leave you feeling nasty and nachos are done individually so each chip has beans and cheese on it. (Unless you count ballpark nacho with the fake orangey cheese.) |

Sometimes the orange stuff is what I am in the mood for. At the airport they ran out of nachos so I asked them to pour the nacho cheese and jalapenos on french fries. It was a delicious substitute. |
