My name is from...

My mom named me after the beloved family dog - Domino - and that's the only thing I have in common with Indiana Jones.

Anyone else's parents ever tell them why they are called what they are called? or what their name means in other languages/cultures?

My first name is from my great grandmother, Laura, and my middle name is the same middle name as my mother and her mother, Beth. "Laura" is derived from laurel, which the Romans used as crowns for victors in Olympic events, so my name means victory, roughly. I'm not sure what Beth means, but I'm sure it's Hebrew.

My last name, Fischer, is really obvious. I'd rather have a cool last name like Klopfenstein, which means clapping stones. Heh.

the reason my name is eric is because there were richards on both sides of the family and while my ma wanted my name to be rick, she didn't want to risk naming me richard. "there were too many dicks in the family already." of course she always chortles when she says this.

My Uncle Dick got remarried recently. His new bride calls him Richard. Much to the bafflement of his niece.

When I was born 3 weeks late at a whopping 9 lbs, 11 oz, my parents said I looked like a big ol' angel.

Angela!!!!

Hey, at least I wasn't named after a dog

I have my mother's middle name, which is Kay.

It is interesting, because people will always ask me if my name is a nick name for Katherine, Kate, or whatever. I have to tell them it is just Kay.

Kay is a greek name, and it means pure....

My first name means protector, my middle name is Fleet (which I think is nifty), and my last name apparently means "apt to complain or accuse".

Interesting combo.
