Corby mother considers legal action
From: By Greg Stolz
February 01, 2006

SCHAPELLE Corby's mother yesterday slammed as "total lies" damaging new claims linking her family to the drug trade, and said she was considering legal action.

Rosleigh Rose returned from visiting her jailed daughter in Bali on Monday night, only to walk into a fresh media storm concerning her ex-husband and still close friend Michael Corby.
Mr Corby has been linked to a central Queensland man charged recently over a large-scale hydroponic marijuana growing operation.

Police raided the man's Gladstone property - next to one owned by Mr Corby - in September 2004, a month before Schapelle Corby was arrested in Bali with 4.1kg of marijuana in her bodyboard bag.

Mr Corby and the man, known only as Tony, were also friends, neighbours and workmates in the central Queensland mining town of Middlemount.

Mr Corby, who was fined for marijuana possession in the 1970s, later followed Tony 500km to Gladstone and purchased an adjoining property.

The association was revealed by the ABC's 7.30 Report, which also claimed Schapelle Corby's Balinese lawyers had rejected an Australian Federal Police offer to DNA-test the marijuana found in the bodyboard bag to determine the drug's origin.
Ms Rose said she and her family were furious at the latest allegations, which come two weeks after the arrest of her son James Kisina over a violent drug-related home invasion.

Police alleged Kisina was suspected of involvement in his half-sister's Bali drug run.

"I've just had a gutful of people telling lies about us," Ms Rose said yesterday at her home at Loganlea, south of Brisbane.

"I just feel sick. I'm sick of all the lies and I'm going to get legal action (sic) this time."

Ms Rose said her ex-husband, who was still in Bali, was in "disbelief" about the latest claims concerning the family.

She said he had not lived at the Gladstone property for more than two years after moving to the Gold Coast for cancer treatment.

"Of course he wouldn't be involved in that bloody stuff (marijuana cultivation)," she said.

"If my neighbours are growing dope, does that mean I am too? That I'm a drug person? It (Tony's drug charges) has got nothing to do with us."

Ms Rose said her family and legal team had pushed for the marijuana found in her daughter's bodyboard bag to be tested but the Indonesian Government had refused.

"We were pushing to get it done because we were positive the marijuana came from Indonesia," she said.

"There's been no investigation done (about the drugs' origin) whatsoever."

Earlier this month, Schapelle Corby had her 20-year jail sentence for drug smuggling reinstated after it had been reduced to 15 years on appeal.

I am thinking that a prison in Bali probably isn't to much fun.

And while I'm on topic. This is my grandfather who thought the war was such a load of shite that after it was all over, he learned to speak German, travelled to Germany frequently and made friends with the Kommandant of the POW camp where his best friend had been interned.

Warwick's love life takes off
August 16, 2006 12:00am

PUNTED by his fiancee just last month, Warwick Capper has bounced back in a new relationship - and career - with a stripper.

The larrikin former Sydney Swans star has hooked up with former adult magazine cover girl Alicia Duvall and become a business partner and high-priced stripper in her company, Red Hot Strippers.

Capper would not comment on his new love interest yesterday, but it is understood the pair have only been seeing each other for a few weeks after meeting through a friend.

He was dumped by fiancee Jo Fuhrmann last month after an engagement that lasted barely three months.

But the former AFL high-flyer has landed on his feet with Duvall, a Queensland stripper who shares her name with a famous UK glamour girl.

Duvall has appeared on 32 magazine covers including Hustler, The Picture and People and was most recently a finalist in the Best Female Stripper category at the Australian Adult Industry Awards in 2003.

While he is tight-lipped on the romantic front, Capper is baring all in his new business partnership with Duvall, getting his gear off as the star attraction of her stripping venture.

And at $3000 for corporate events and $1200 for hen's night parties, he is charging plenty to get down to his famous Swans tight shorts.

"I was in Penthouse three times, so I don't mind (stripping). It is just a bit of fun," he said.

After stripping off, the Capper offer then includes a meet-and-greet session, posing for photos and signing autographs.

"We've had a few calls already. I've booked a job in Papua New Guinea next month and there are a couple of companies interested in using me for their corporate Christmas parties," he said.

Budgie smuggler wings it
October 08, 2006 12:00am

A ROBBER has fled a Gold Coast pet store with a lorikeet shoved down the front of his underpants.

The man ruffled feathers at the Pet Barn, in Nerang, when he was captured on a security camera stealing the $400 bird.

It follows a spate of animal thefts at the store, including lizards, snakes and puppies.

One man even stole a fish in a McDonald's cup prompting a "no food and drink" policy at the store. The bird smuggler fled in a car driven by a female accomplice. Investigations are continuing.

Japan finds joy of blues
By Andy Withers
November 07, 2006

DELTA Blues won the Melbourne Cup from stablemate Pop Rock in an historic one-two for Japanese-trained horses at Flemington this afternoon.

Yasunari Iwata pushed the winner Delta Blues into the lead approaching the 300-metre mark.

He then punched his mount out to win by a half-head after being joined by his stablemate Pop Rock, ridden by dual Melbourne Cup-winning hoop Damien Oliver for Katsuhiko Sumii, inside the final 100 metres.

"I'm so happy," Iwata said before returning to the winner's enclosure in tears, overcome with joy at winning the 'race that stops the nation'.

Croc-bitten tourist 'stupid'

Jano Gibson
November 9, 2006 - 1:33PM

A Belgian tourist who slapped a stick on the water to make a crocodile come closer for a better photograph should be nominated for an idiots' award after it bit him on the leg, says the doctor who treated him.

Because of the tourist's actions, authorities say the creature will have to be removed.

Stefaan Vanthournout, 24, was with a group of about six other tourists who ignored crocodile warning signs and waded into Masons Creek, on the south side of Cape Tribulation in Far North Queensland, after spotting the two-metre saltwater crocodile lying on the riverbank.

"They looked across the creek and they saw this crocodile there on the other bank," Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service spokesman, Mark Read, said.

"They then waded across the creek to the other side. It's pretty risky behaviour."

As they did so, the crocodile, which locals call Allan, slipped into the water.

"Then the gentleman in question wanted to get a better photograph of the crocodile, which by this stage had submerged.

"And the gentleman then picked up a short stick, approximately 30 centimetres long, and was tapping the water within about a metre and a half of the crocodile to try and get a better photograph.
