Oh, thank you, milady.
![]() At work we pre-celebrated women's day on the 5th: the director invited all women working at school (not very many of us there) for a glass of wine, a slice of chocolate cake (Sacher's tarte) and guess what, he even recited a nice (but longish) poem about women! |

^^^that's sweet
![]() ![]() Are women also given red pinks today? It is done here in the East Germanies. ^^And yes, I have to admit that Women's Day was rather unknown to me (except for that left politicians gave statements on the situation of women here - few days ago they discussed in parliament why women still earn 25% less on average and are more affected by poverty - and worldwide) too before I came to E-Berlin. It's more a tradition in the former socialist countries to honour women in general (and not "just" mothers on Mother's Day), my Russian mate (the new baked daddy) always congratulated me when we still worked in Bavaria, where that is/was very uncommon. But slowly they overtake that in W-Germany, tonight for example there will be a theme evening on Arte (French/German channel), though methinks that can also be the French influence, I think they celebrate it too. To not be injust to men, they generalised Father's Day in E-Germany into Herrentag - Gents' Day, renowned for high beer consumation ![]() Last edited by Stephi_B : 03-08-2009 at 11:57 AM. |

I hope they have a Sad Women's Day too, because this just seems like rubbing salt into the wound.

^sad women's day is just an ordinary day, not a holiday, un-celebrated on cca 360 days of the year

Aye, it's an ambivalent one: happy for what was reached, sad for what was not so far and the lack of (much) interest most of the time.
However, I like to wish happy to appreciate what women did and do on the small as well as on the large scale, openly or hidden, in whichever field that improves life, and quite often under tough or dangerous conditions. |
