^^ Yes, Roger Penrose - he's superb, do you know his "The Road to Reality. A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe"? (Got stuck somewhere in chapter 3 last year, but I wanna read it on, maybe in holiday).

Quantum microtubules, cool, must check that out!

worst, mczero

it's all very well, but we bandy the word about like we know
what it means, but it turns out that no-one really has much
of an idea. same with the self-reflection therad, how can
you self-reflect when you don't know what self is?

i consider the soul a pattern that distinguishes us from one another. it is the system that resonates along with the rhythm of life, and it is the one thing that remembers that you are nothing except dirt and electricity and that really nothing else matters as long as it comes straight from the heart. unlike our human shells, the soul has the ability to be.

other than that, it's a music stream i happen to like

Found Poem: Souls In Hell

If souls exist as a pure substance
each must have some mass.
The convenient measurements of pure substance
are pressure, volume, temperature, and amount.

The ideal gas law constant R
lets us calculate the number of moles
if R is chosen in units that work for
pressure, volume, and temperature.
A mole is the amount of pure substance
that contains the same number of chemical units
as there are atoms in 12 grams of carbon-12.

I think we can also safely assume that
once a soul gets to hell it does not leave.
Many religions hold that you will go to Hell
if you are not a member of their religion.
Since there are more than one of these religions,
and since people do not belong to
more than one religion,
we can project that all souls go to Hell.
We my safely assume, then,
that the mass of souls in hell
increases exponentially.

Boyle's Law states that in order for
temperature and pressure to remain the same
the ratio of the mass and volume needs to stay constant.
So, if Hell is expanding at a slower rate
than the rate at which souls enter hell,
then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase
until all Hell breaks loose.
Of course, if Hell is expanding at a rate faster
than the increase in souls in Hell,
then the temperature and pressure will drop
until Hell freezes over.

If we accept
the Kathy Seaman Postulate
enunciated to me during freshman year
that "It'll be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you",
and take into account
that I have never succeeded
in sleeping with her,
that means that the notion that
Hell is expanding at a rate faster
than the increase in souls in hell
cannot be true and,
thus,
Hell is exothermic.

.

I've heard a small and mean internal voice
At every chance Ive taken to rejoice:
Is this the thing you have the nerve to call
Your best, your very best, your little all?

Beaten, strangled, it can have its choice
If I ever catch that snotty voice.

^that voice is the devil, of course

Just to complicate the discussion further, it might be worth noting that the Bible sharply differentiates between the soul and the spirit.

According to the good book, the soul is basically what Freida said - the repository of the personality, the desires of the heart, the 'spark of life" if you will. It is the seat of rebellion, of anger, of fear and survival, happiness, ambition, jealousy, pride, greed, lust, humor etc. Not all bad, not all good - just a tangle of life.

The spirit, however, is what is liberated from the soul when it becomes entwined with the things of God, or the Spirit of God - love, joy, peace, gratitude, generosity, endurance, forgiveness, patience, wisdom are all known as the "fruit of the Spirit." Whether or not these are recognized as things of God is not as important as desiring them and living them out, as Jesus illustrated in his praise of the Roman Centurion.

The "souless" folks that have been mentioned are of course not soul-less, but perhaps they are farther removed from these goodnesses than others, or are so damaged that they can no longer give or receive grace of any kind.

oh no, i guess i didn't explain myself properly i mean that the soul REMEMBERS what you do and ever have done. like a picture of your life, your choices, even your thoughts. the soul is not the instigator of actions that the human takes, but it reflects them.

like.. if the brain of a white soul takes one red decision, it turns pink. that kind of thing

no arguments here -I would think that the soul surely holds and is affected by memory, too.
Sorry though - I didn't mean to put words in your mouth - I mostly just meant to expand upon what you said, but I didn't put it very well. I like your analogy with the colors
