good-Vibing...

Try to relax. Almost everyone is as nervous as you are. I can pretty much guarantee you're going to meet someone tomorrow who will end up being a close friend, if not for life, at least long enough for you to have someone to hang with freshman year

Try to have fun. If you get lost, don't be afraid to ask for directions. Don't eat too much pizza or drink too much beer - you'll regret it later! (I'm still trying to take off the weight I gained in college! )

'kay - I'll shut up and let someone else have a go...

Ooo! Gotta say more -

One of the best things I learned in college is that you have to make your activities match your priorities.
This has a number of different implications. One: Once you decide what your focus is going to be, try to become as involved as possible in activities that are related to it, and avoid activities that aren't related to it. Two: You will be required to take courses to fulfill General Ed that may not have much to do with your major. Don't beat yourself up if you don't do as well in these courses (for example, Psych 101 if you're a History major) as in your major classes. These classes are designed to weed out non-majors, and identify talent. I used Psych 101 as an example because, although I enjoyed the classes immensely, I had a rude awakening upon receiving my first, carefully-written paper back - with a "C" on it. Turns out that there was a special kind of jargon I was supposed to be using, that I was unaware of. I was allowed to rewrite the paper and eventually earned a B+ on it, but I had to work HARD, and it diverted attention away from my other classes.
Which brings me to point Three: Each one of your professors will very likely expect you to make their class the most important thing in your life, and will assign work accordingly. It's up to you to choose how much you want to pay attention to that. If you're stuck on earning straight A's, you will very likely end the year sick and exhausted from lack of sleep and worry. Choose carefully what you're going to prioritize. A solid "B" is a beautiful thing, especially if you've earned it by focusing on your core courses for your major, and not worried yourself sick over the huge pile of required reading for "Women's Literature in 20th Century China". (get my meaning?)

go to your instructor’s office hours a few times throughout the semester even if it means making up an excuse to have to go. have them read over you assignment, or make up a question, something, anything.

GET INVOLVED! join a group, club, anything. it will make school more than just showing up to classes and going home. sororities are GREAT because they have an enormous amount of support when it comes to your studies. Every sorority has a compilation of information on all the professors, what classes to take and which ones to avoid, copies of tests, study notes, etc, and they have mandatory study groups based on your major to help you succeed. Plus you will create an amazing network that will benefit you the rest of your life. Don't be fooled by stereotypes, go to your universities Rush and find out for yourself first, a sorority is a fabulous investment.

Best of luck, have fun, study hard (I know you'll do both; you're very bright), and be sure to keep in touch!

First off, surb, is good luck! You will have fun & learn lots of interesting things.

Secondly, on top of what everyone else has already said, let me also make a recommendation to you. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!! If you think about doing so, please note that procrastination is a very bad idea. Trust me on this.

Have a great day tomorrow, & please let us know how it went!

Pax,

O.K. at the risk of sounding like a mom (which I am not) do the school work first. Get it done and out of the way, then you will have time to do whatever you want. I saw way too many classmates flunk out because they were not disciplined and partied their way out of school. I partied like a rock star and graduated with a 3.7, however, before I partied, I made sure my work was done. Nuff said

Thanks guys!! All of you made me beam with joy.

My schedule is pretty tough this semester. I wanted to take five classes, but I can't because all of them are filled up so I am taking four. I still need to buy books and figure out how to get into the honors program.

Thanks again!!

Here's what I wish someone had slapped me upside da head and told me:

Take your time figuring out what the hell it is you want, then don't waste time going after it!

One more thing I wish someone had said (don't think it'll apply to you):

There's more than one type of engineering you dope.

Just be yourself!

I agree w/Klynne, academics should come first, but don't be the only girl in the dorm studying when everyone else is having fun, either. A happy medium.

Break a leg!

OH---BEWARE OF SENIOR GUYS!!!!!!!
