I'm a Bowie freak, and I know exactly what ya mean! (Although Bowie's appeal does reach across a wide range of ages....)

I try to remember that quote.
That is a brilliant quote.

My friend who was turning 40 said "I don't FEEL 40."

I said 'Sure you do. This is what 40 feels like"

It's not supposed to feel like 90.

It's pretty great actually.

I remembered a few more
- hangovers hurt more and take longer to get over

- I know what certain creams are now used for and I'm not embarrassed to buy them

- Sentences can start with "When I was your age"

Walking into a room and wondering what the hell you were going in there for...

weighing how much fun something is by how much time it will take to recover from it

discovering you just might end up with bifocals after all

I just heard an interesting thing that horrified me:

I was discussing with someone the fact that I don't ever think of myself as looking or feeling 47 years old (which I am), and he (a psychologist by trade) said that people in their 40s generally have a self-image of themselves 15 years younger than they really are; people in their 30s usually think of themselves as 10 years younger than they are.

What was horrifying was that I had just arranged to go on a blind date with a 37 year old, and now I'm thinking that I'm going to perceive myself as five years younger than he is, and he's going to see me as 20 years older than he is!

Another difficulty presenting with age -- needing a calculator to go on a blind date.

That's really funny about the numbers. When I was about 19 I thought I was 35, and would go around drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, rolling my eyes and saying "Oh, my GOD!" all day long, like I was Dorothy Parker or somebody.

Now that I am 44, I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke and I spend my best hours giggling at cannibal jokes, playing with kaleidoscopes, taking pictures of my cat doing stupid things, trading glitter makeup with my daughter, and screaming and jumping up and down at Bowie concerts and Red Wings games. My 19-year-old self would have been thoroughly disgusted, but I'm having a lot of fun.

But I still drink a gallon of coffee a day. Some things gotta stay the same.

I listen to a lot of Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Perry Como, the 30's & 40's style music & classic jazz. So I guess that would make me... how old? lol

Talking

sparticle:

My problem is that I think of myself not as 15 years younger than I am, but in fact still 12 years old. (It gives me a great upper hand during water balloon fights with my 11 and 14 y.o. neighbors, because they think it might be disrespectful to douse the old man next door, while I feel no reservations in ambushing them when they least expect it.)

I was just telling PFP that my new thing is to counteract the aches and pains that come with aging by whining like a five year old. Shouldn't that work?

I did that too!lol

My niece & nephew are 13 & 12. When they get to playing a little to rough or get upset w/ each other (or the adults), I find myself saying all kinds of things w/out thinking. From "Be careful you're going to break your neck doing that..." to all kinds of goofy things my mom used to say (still says). I alway swore I was going to sound "cool" when I got "older", guess not!

For real now, I think y'all took care of yourselves much better than, say, my grandparents generation. Which is why none of us look our age, including me, who still gets carded for beer.
