The "nightmare" word association thing made me think of a Hey Arnold episode, when Helga had a sleepwalking problem, and it turned out it was because she ate lots of pork rinds. This made me wonder if it is really true, if what we eat before we go to bed does have an effect on our nightly activities (ahem). Maybe insomniacs really just have bad eating habits...

actaully, i drink warm milk before bed, and becasue im suuuper hyperactive, it makes me even MORE hyper. BUT in relation to pork rinds...they made my brother sleepwalk once.

I don't notice any difference in my sleep patterns and what I eat before going to bed.
I used to laugh in my sleep but nothing special seemed to trigger it.
I had a friend who said his mother-in-law would sing the chorus to "Ghost Riders In The Sky" in her sleep. They'd be fast asleep whenever she came over to visit and about 3:00 am or so they'd hear, "Yippee yi yayyyyyyyyyyyy! Yippee yi yoooooo-oooooooooo!" and then silence...

I use to walk in my sleep a lot when I was younger - even went outside a few times - out the back door, walk around the house and ring the front door bell. My dad was not very happy with me.

When I was in college and lived in the dorm, I was quite the walker, but it was more because of the stress of school not what I had eaten earlier, I think. Garlic does make me have really weird dreams, though, especially ones where everyone I've ever met is involved in very complex storylines, and I'm just observing.

I dreamed last night that I was given the job of preparing the late Anna Nicole Smith's dog "Sugar Pie" as the main dish for a feast. He was still alive and wouldn't stay on the platter, and I had to break one of his legs

It was horrible, and when I woke up I had to give my dogs extra hugs.
Dinner that night had been Italian sausage in garlic tomato sauce with pasta. I've noticed in the past that whenever I have anything like that (pizza, for instance) I can pretty much count on a nightmare.

I don't know that there's any sound evidence out there that food eaten prior to bedtime alters sleep or dreams, unless of course you eat something to induce diarrhea or drink a quart of beer just prior to retiring.

How about night eating leading to weight gain? It certainly works that way for mice.

I think I had a Cooper's Sparkling Ale affected dream last night, where I was back reading the book (Until I Find You) I'd just finished yesterday and was surprised to find that several people on this board were actually mentioned in the story and I deduced from that that John Irving must actually must be one of the people on the board since he knew all about us.
