galligaskins - The literarily critical equivalent of troubadours, Galligaskins would wander the countryside rudely mocking authors and poets, particularly those they regarded as suffering from 'overblown passages'.

“It was a wretched, rutted mule-track running through thick forests with occasional clearings in which lay the small Kentish villages, where rude shock-headed peasants with smocks and galligaskins stared with bold, greedy eyes at the travellers.” -- Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir Nigel (1906)

galligaskins - originally, silk socks with small images of clocks embroidered on them, after a fashion started by the Prince of Wales, first sprung on an unsuspecting public in 1899 at the Battersea Dogs Home Benefit and Revue, at which he sang "Father's A Drunkard And Mother Is Dead", much to the Queen's subsequent displeasure; by extension, any socks with any embroidering.

“It was a wretched, rutted mule-track running through thick forests with occasional clearings in which lay the small Kentish villages, where rude shock-headed peasants with smocks and galligaskins stared with bold, greedy eyes at the travellers.” -- Arthur Conan Doyle, Sir Nigel 1906

galligaskins boots made from galligator skin, worn by young men who pretend to have slain the galligator with their own hands.

Also used metaphorically: a braggart, a boaster

Don't listen to his tall tales. He's one of them galligaskins folk.

galligaskins

A heavy rubberized canvas smock used by galley chefs while at sea in inclement weather to prevent burns from flying pans and overturned boilers.

galligaskins - a profane, vulgar, or obscene expletive that does not contribute any meaning; it is added only to fill out a sentence, or to add a false sense of couleur locale to the description.

“It was a galligaskin, rutted mule-track running through galligaskin forests with galligaskin clearings in which lay the galligaskin Kentish villages, where rude shock-headed galligaskins with smocks and galligaskins stared with galligaskin, greedy eyes at the traveller's galligaskins.” -- Arthur Galligaskins Doyle, Galligaskins Nigel (1906)

Galligaskins - A secret society made up from the member of the Yale secret society "Skull and Bones" who have been elected or appointed to national political office. Aka "Skin and Bones".

The gathering of the Galligaskins at the annual Skull and Bones reunion was a point of some tenderness for those non-Galligaskins present.

galligaskins - participants of a certain dictionary game

“It was a wretched, rutted HTML, scripts and graphics file running through thick routers with occasional spammers in which lay the small antish villagers, rude shock-headed galligaskins, who stared with bold, greedy eyes at the judge.” -- Apple Conan Dell, Sir treekisser (1906)

All rise for the judge!!

OK, as you were, Dictionarios. Let me try to make this as painless as possible.

First, for the benefit of the two of you who have not already peeked, the real definition of the word galligaskins: 1. Full length, loosely fitting hose or breeches worn in the 16th and 17th centuries, and in our time by Marcus Bales. 2. Any loose breeches. 3. Leggings.

There were numerous multiple entries, but only the first definition submitted by each person counts. So get it right the first time or lump it, that's my philosophy.

A pair of soiled and torn galligaskins goes out to YsaPur along with my sympathy for this definition, presumably inspired by her personal experience:
galligaskins - members of the extended family, great in number, who, when on a visit, behave outrageously: they guzzle up all food and drink, chew their dirty fingernails, pass gas and gossip, make a big mess. They know and use many creative ways of acting insolently. After they leave, the house looks like after a plague of locusts. They have the cheek to call themselves ‘the merry folk’.
To Marcus, I award a pair of studded galligaskins, to augment his considerable galligaskinian wardrobe, for this definition:
galligaskins - Impromptu weaponry, typically sticks and stones, but occasionally work tools or kitchen implements.
Stephi gets a set of tricoleur clan tartan galligaskins with matching earmuffs for her offering:
galligaskins n (plural only)

denomination for an ensemble of French bagpipe musicians
Hyakujo's Fox [mind if I just call you Hy?] has earned a pair of galligaskins ornamented with fading flowers, rustic tableware and rotting fruit for the following definition:
galligaskins - A stylish artist's tote bag suitable for collecting fading flowers, rustic tableware and rotting fruit.
Coffee will look sporty in his new rubberized canvas galligaskins as he treats his guests to epicurean delights and remedies for mal de mer in his galley. Thank you for this definition:
A heavy rubberized canvas smock used by galley chefs while at sea in inclement weather to prevent burns from flying pans and overturned boilers.
Xfox can play with his/her Xbox clad in his/her new grimy, food-stained galligaskins as he/she hides from his/her mother who frowns upon Xbox and playing with food. Thanks for sharing this one:
galligaskins foolery with food. Master galligaskins, Penn and Teller wrote the book How To Play With Your Food.
In flaming hot pink galligaskins, Brynn will frolick at the sight of her special someone by virtue of coming up with her delighted dog definition:
galligaskins - n. the dance a delighted dog does upon the return of its mistress or master.
Hot diggity dog!

Won't Trisherina look hot modeling her scanty, shiny, cutoff galligaskins - just what the doctor ordered!
galligaskins: the wrapping-cloths for black bag medical instruments.
Yummy!

Tantalizing will be an apt description for Jack Flanders if he can manage to wriggle into our own supple galligaskins of Irish moleskin. [Please allow six months for delivery. It will take at least that long for us to catch a sufficient number of Irish moles]:
galligaskins - handmade leather riding pants created from Irish moleskin well known for its soft but durable fabric.

"Kathleen pulled up her well worn galligaskins over her narrow hips and went outside looking for the stud."
Yo! Whassup?!

Last but not least, I am rushing a pair of itchy garbadine galligaskins to Dinzdale to give him something else to worry about and perhaps distract him from worrying about possible infections to nonexistent body parts:
galligaskins n.
A venereal disease specifically affecting the area known as the "barse" or "taint".
Now, if I can just get myself to stop worrying about my own barse and taint...

Without much further ado about nothing, and by the authority vested in me by the aforesaid Dictionarios who populate the venerable estate known as The Dictionary Game, and who, like myself, demonstrate considerable evidence of having far too much time on their hands; wherewith and whenceupon I heretofore declare the grand winner of the golden galligaskins to be none other than Jack Flanders! Jack can well use the golden garment and clearly will have ample time on his hands while waiting for the arrival of his Irish moleskins!

Break a leg and take it away, Jack Flanders!!!!!!!
