The lesser known cetacean structures, related to the comb-like filtering structures, baleen. Balanus was used in certain predatory whale species, specificaly sperm whales, to separate squid beaks from the rest of the effluent, separating them at the stomach and ejecting them forward, rather than allowing them the much more painful rear entry.
