balanus - the tipping point between order and chaos.

Forbidden forever to bring up the topic of Scrabble with Stanley again, Blanche retired to her room to ponder the balanus represented by her dictionary sitting by her bed, and fought the urge to look up the actual meaning of "zwischenzug."

balanus - A rare disease, sometimes referred to as Baboon Syndrome, affecting one's rear end. The effected area becomes red and expands like a baloon.

balanus: n.

The lesser known cetacean structures, related to the comb-like filtering structures, baleen. Balanus was used in certain predatory whale species, specificaly sperm whales, to separate squid beaks from the rest of the effluent, separating them at the stomach and ejecting them forward, rather than allowing them the much more painful rear entry.

balanus -- a type of early firearm, the barrel of which was two half-cylinders strapped together. When fired, it leaked noxious clouds of sulphurous gasses out the sides and back of the weapon instead of sending everything out the front, often leaving the gunner breathing his own fumes.

coquelicot: A delicate fabric, very teasing to the fingers. Difficult to sew owing to its tendency to squirm and bunch in the feed dogs, frowning petulantly.

coquelicot - Contact croquet. Developed in the early 90's when people realised that croquet is a sport for people who can afford BMW's for their dogs and the "average man" decided that they would change the rules making the game entirely contact.
