I think poorly taxidermied animals are denizens of the uncanny valley. Of course, where there is the uncanny, there is discomfort, and where there is discomfort, there is humour.

Story of my upstairs neighbor

I used to have upstairs neighbors from Argentina. They were really nice - they even organized an "apéritif" in my building, where everyone met everyone else, drank wine and hung out. The guy in the couple was at least 30 years older than his girlfriend, short and slightly stocky, though judging by the impacts of his footsteps when walking around upstairs, he probably weighed around 250 pounds. I remember it used to sound like they were moving furniture around every night after 2 in the morning. I asked them about it one day and realized that they owned office chairs with wheels. I can just imagine him wheeling himself around his apartment just to go pick up a beer can in the fridge. Anyways, the guy had a huge grey handlebar mustache, and I liked to refer to him as "the walrus" when talking about him with other neighbors. But I digress.

They have since moved out - i guess my telekinetic powers finally kicked in. A short time later, their replacement moved in. I think he is a single man, though I can't be sure. I was happy to note that the noise levels dropped significantly, which would tend to indicate that the new upstairs neighbors has a corporal density inferior to that of lead. However, I am slightly alarmed to notice his morning habits. He is extremely loud between 8:00AM and 8:20AM. It starts with small whining sounds - like crying - then progressively builds up into all out screaming. I heard this sketch a couple of times a few months back and thought it was the next door neighbor preparing for a role (he's a theater actor). But the next door neighbor has since moved out, and the whining and yelling has become more and more recurrent. It literally wakes me up now (ok i usually wake up at 8:20 anyways, but still). It doesn't sound like mantras, nor is it acting (or else he's really bad at learning this particular scene by heart).

Does anyone know what this crazy morning crying and shouting could be ? I'm guessing it is religious, but have no idea what religion..I should probably go ask him, but I don't want to embarass the guy. He is an otherwise quiet an unnoticeable neighbor.

Maybe it's his domineering mother calling every morning to check up on him. I have a friend whose pain-in-the-ass mom would call her EVERY MORNING at 7 am to make sure she had slept in her own bed. She (my friend) came back to her room every morning about 6:30 am.

a) There is no way a morning wank could involve so much angry screaming and whimpering..unless someone with high heels was stepping on his you know whats. And I in that case I would hear the high heels walking around - not the case.

b) His shower is situated in the other room, way to the right - i know that because i visited the apratment before he moved in.

c) As for kung fu practice, there are no audible impacts at any moment. So unless he is a ninja, that is impossible. And I doubt he could have become a ninja without having learned to control his whimpering first.

Anyone else have a theory ?

this actually fits pretty well. He could be speaking on the phone. But he tends to repeat the end sequence (where he screams furiously) many times over.

hmm...now that I think of it that doesn't really contradict your theory either...
