21 times.

The place with the best weather that I had the most fun in and felt most excited for the future was in the Hollywood hills in Los Angeles, but I do love my garden and neighbors and neighborhood here in Portland, so it's a toss up.

i was walking along a footpath today and started thinking about paths. footpaths. footpaths i've walked along in my life.

please may you talk a little bit about a favourite or memorable footpath from your past or present - the one that springs into your mind just now when i say the word 'footpath'?

Yes : )

The one that comes to mind first is the one we used to walk up to the swimming pool at the country club my folks belonged to. The road abrubtly ends (as to keep the riff raff from drivinsimply driving on to the property?? at any rate it was probably only about 75 feet long or so and there was an enormouse ant hill that my brother used to put firecrackers in to no avail....

This was a pleaseant reminder of the good ol days
Thank you Zero

There was a gate between my mother's back yard and my Aunt Sheila's. They lived on opposite sides of a hill near Lake Cunningham on New Providence, and we would often walk the path of coral limestone rocks and fallen leaves between the houses. Once after a rainfall I saw a red-and-black fungus that looked like an alien brain, and I was so afraid of it that I made my mother destroy it. Another time I was sitting on the path while my mother worked in the garden not far away, and a hummingbird buzzed by and startled and delighted me.

i take a wee 10 minute footpath to the train station every morning. it runs behind a row of houses and every day i meet two elderly ladies walking their dogs on the path. one is heavy and grumpy and has trouble walking, just like her dog: an old german shepherd. he trots in front of her while she, in her own loving grumpy way, talks to him or explains to me that he's old while throwing random insults at him. the other one is a bit younger with fluffy white hair, big glasses and always smiling, just like her dog: a young white terrier who bounces happily along the path, glad to be alive. she chats to me about the weather, the changing seasons or, occasionally, what i'm wearing.

There is a little path through a small church garden. I don't get to walk it very often, but I've known of it so long that I've walked it many times. It's crushed granite, mostly, and sand, and it crunches just a little. I secretly like it best when it's covered in pomegranate blossoms.

It's about 20 feet from her front door to the gate. There is a pen of box turtles I never got acquainted with, a wooden door that is as much a scratching post as anything else, cats that will stand or sleep on the door even when you swing it open, boxes of lettuce, boxes of disassembled plastic flower pots and plastic chairs (usually occupied by cats), all between the sidewalk and the porch where I made a really good decision a sort-of long time ago.

I love the little flagstone path that goes from my back yard gate, under a mock orange bush near a stone fountain, past an arbor of clematis, some lilac trees, and under the grape arbor. If I continue, I go past a garden swing and around in back of the garage where we have the hammock set up next to the neighbor's bamboo fence. I lie there and watch hummingbirds make trips back and forth. But if I pause under the grapes and stand on a certain stone, there's a stepping stone that says "you are here" right in front of it. My mother-in-law gave it to me before she died. I stand in front of that, look through a window pane that's hanging on the arbor, and see the tiny garden beyond. I like to think of her there.
