Another forum I post on runs them along the right side (www.virtualdr.com). They have a javascript applet that will hide them if you click them away. That's nice for people with small screens.

So, has anyone else noticed that since this announcement instead of having over a hundred visitors almost all the time in Fast Chat and upwards of 25 in Fiction, we now have like 30 in Fast Chat and 5 in Fiction? And there are a lot fewer posts? What's with THAT?

Google employs people to go from board to board and run up the traffic until the board owner is forced to take google ads to help pay for the traffic.

OMG Fox, that sounds so believable.
Sad, isn't it?

Nah but so not true. My cynical spidey-senses would in a way think it could be true.... but I may well take my hours of boredom and compile a list of the regulars which will refute your dastardly theories!

Ze: I have a short question, and then a long rant. Feel free to skip the rant, it goes on forever.
a) do you get any compensation / publicity / deals etc. etc. if your site members click on the ads on the site? - if so, I would happily click on them if that would help improve your rating/revenue etc. however they work it out so you can survive without paying for our idle chit chat (as long as it's legal/ethical of course! Sorry, I have no idea how these things work, and I'm sure a few other people on here may also be wondering) b) what I DO object to is - omg and I REALLY object because they're so obtrusive - sites like hoovers.com which I subscribe to for work, and they have huge ads for some crap, unrelated to the site or what you're looking for, and it's one of those flash ads (er.... I think it's flash) that just opens up like a big book that folds out across your screen and you can't get rid of it unless you find the tiny tiny little black "x" hidden in the darkest part of the ad, otherwise you inadvertently click on the ad and then of course by this point I'm raging. I'm at work. My company PAYS so I can access this site. I don't expect them to have the cheek to try to generate even more money through adverts which actually impede my work process. Also I work in advertising which makes it even more annoying. I despise those kind of tactics. (rant over) By the way the ads on here are very discreet, I approve. ![]() |

"Download free Pop-up blockers!"
How ironic that adverts advertise the fact that they can get rid of adverts.... |
