ooh there's a film?!
i agree on the gwyneth thing. hope should be quiet, but gutsy. gwyneth just doesn't have the spunk! i bought the sequel 'dry' a few weeks ago. haven't started it yet. |

I don't know about Gwyneth as Hope. I thought she'd be perfect for the mother when Augusten was a little boy. We Bible Dip all the time, from the bartenders handbook when deciding what drinks to make. ![]()

i'm now reading the sequel 'dry', which is about his life as a recovering alcoholic in advertising. perhaps not as good as running with scissors, but still compulsive reading.

Magical Thinking
Same guy, new book, more "memoir". Very funny and an easy read.

i am apparently the only person on the planet who disliked this book.
i found the quirkiness a little too forced, the casual dismissal of honestly disturbing experiences a little too callous, and the overall tone extremely exhausting in its shallowness. above all i felt like i was listening to someone talk about some legitimately damaging experiences in his life, as he described them with a forced sense of humor in an effort to make himself feel better about what he'd been through. like, dude, it's okay to be angry and fvcked up over some of these things. you don't have to turn them all into witticisms and anecdotal hilarities. it felt insincere.

only just gotten round to reading this... very funny in places. Look forward to the movie but it'll probably be a waste of time (like most screen adaptations).

I saw this movie at the library today. Then I went to find the book again, the computer catalog says it's in but I can never find it.
Is the movie any good? |
