Interactive and (more or less) self-evolving platform+playground+databank
The idea is that the kids create a place of information on their own (with a little starting-help to get things moving, and - hopefully - experts of various fields who help/counsel them in their projects). A bit like Wikipedia where they can publish (+evolve through interaction with other kids/experts) things they researched, but much more, they should also be able to present (and mayhap evolve) self-created literary writings, music, videos, pieces of art, scientific projects and discuss, work on creations from the 'real world' (i.e. from scientists, artists).
With starting-help I mean the following, here on the example of Frieda's learning words by pictures: A certain basis number of zoomable pictures is given forth together with the vocabulary in some common languages like English, French, Spanish say. The kids can add the according words in their language (and ideally learn foreign words in the process), but they can also add new pictures still missing (there should be a search function, like with google images, but extended so you can scroll through certain areas like 'plants', 'animals', 'household tools', etc.) Besides an easy way to add+embed all sorts of files, there should also be a possibility to chat via text and/or video/web cam. But this function - unlike the possibility to read the published content - should be for registered members only - to keep of paedophiles. If sponsors could be brought up, prices for the most innovative/excellent projects would be an additional motivation factor. But I think to create your own (not conventional school-like) 'school', teach one's knownledge to other kids and learn from theirs, would be already quite motivational. |
