Heehee. Were you aware of "The Wee Free Men"? I read it just before reading "Carpe Jugulum", and was delighted to find our small blue friends had a cameo in that book as well.

Hey, here's a neat thing I thought I would share.
I spent the past week at this huge gathering of Presbyterian youth from all over the United States. There were some visiting adults from other countries as well. I met one of them, a guy from South Africa, in my small group. Anyway, it's relevant to the topic because I found out that the guy's a Terry Pratchett fan, the first one I've actually met face to face since I started reading the books. So, that was kind of a cool coinkidink.

I have just introduced my daughter to Terry Pratchett - she loves him and her teacher is really impressed! (She's in 6th grade)
love Jo

I just started reading some of these.
I started with Reaper Man. Then Color of Magic Then Mort Now I'm reading Night Watch. I know I'm not reading them "in order" but thankfully each book stands well on its own. They each reference any required info from past books and don't seem to assume that you know what transpired before (although I assume that having read them in order might give a better appreciation to the references). |

Fantastic series of books
![]() Here's what I've read of it: Color of Magic Light Fantastic Sourcery Eric Pyramids Small Gods Moving Pictures Interesting Times The Last Hero: A Discworld Fable The Last Continent I think that's the order I read those in...I may be wrong, but whatever. Anywho, my favorite characters are by far Rincewind and Death. ^_^ Has anyone seen this as of yet? I was preusing it at a bookstore not too long ago. Quite fantastic.

Definitely read Monstrous Regiment. I believe that was the first I read, and the one that turned me on to Discworld.
You pretty much can't go wrong with a Pratchett book, although found myself not really enjoying Thief of Time. Guess I'll have to give it another go. ![]() Edit: Ooh, I'm envious of your fancy-dancy hardcover, frieda! I've only got the cheap paperbacks (trying to complete my collection, so my bookshelf will dance up and down with joy). |

For anyone who is considering Discworld:
There are 3 main sets of characters in the books, Wizards, Witches, & the Watch. The Watch is my favorite set, I love the Witches, & the Wizards are... a rather distant 3rd for me. The series starts with the Wizards. When I heard of Discworld I got Color of Magic, thought it was mildly amusing, & thought no more of it. A good while later, Night Watch (I think) was on the new book shelf at the library, I thought what the heck, gave it a try, loved it, & went on to read all the rest of them. Then there's Death & his adopted grand-daughter, Susan Sto-Helit (partly immortal)... Reaper Man might be a good place to start, & then work forward & backward. I think you can get the proper chronology of the series on Wikipedia... cheers

One of my favorite TP books is The Truth. The photographer vampire keeps ashing himself with the flashbulb. *snicker* And it covers journalistic integrity, which is one of my pet causes.
I second the earlier votes for Good Omens. It might be my favorite book ever. |
